WASHINGTON (AP) - The No. 2 general in Afghanistan says commanders are making the environment safer for international troops to operate, even as so-called insider attacks continue against coalition forces.

British Lt. Gen. Adrian Bradshaw says Afghan and foreign officials have come up with a better system for identifying threats and questioning people who might be involved. More than 50 Americans have been killed this year by Afghan forces or insurgents who infiltrated the Afghan forces.

Despite efforts so far, officials have reported two new cases of such killings in the last few weeks.

That includes one Sunday in eastern Afghanistan that officials had previously been uncertain about. U.S. military officials confirmed Monday that it, too, was an insider attack.
