ATLANTA (AP) -- The Georgia Department of Corrections plans to close a north Georgia probation detention center.
The department said Wednesday it plans to close the 200-bed Northwest Probation Detention Center in Cedartown effective May 1st.
The department says that will lead to a savings of about $500,000 in direct operational costs in fiscal year 2010.
The center houses 200 male detainees. They will be transferred to other state facilities starting this week.
The center's 59 employees will be offered positions at other department facilities.
