Clarification: an earlier version of this story said there would be no voting at the Board of Elections on Tuesday. However, voters can present completed absentee ballots at the board office.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. for the runoff election that will decide who will become the first mayor of the new consolidated Macon-Bibb County.

Either current Macon Mayor Robert Reichert or former Mayor C. Jack Ellis will assume the slot.

Voters will also select four commission members to serve with those already selected in the September 17th election.  Races in districts 2, 4, 6, and 8 must be decided by runoff.

Voters may also present completed absentee ballots today at Board of Elections headquarters on Pio Nono Avenue.
