Two pit bull dogs were shot and killed over the weekend in south Macon.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet told 13WMAZ that officers responded to a call from a resident of West Richmond Street on Saturday evening around 7 p.m.

A woman called 911 and reported that she saw two pit bulls attacked and killed a small puppy that was being walked by two men.

Three officers arrived and searched for the dogs responsible for attacking the puppy. The police officers witnessed the pit bulls attack another dog on a porch on Triple Hill Drive.

Gaudet said, "Officers fired two shots into the ground near the animals and after exhausting all possibilities, the dogs were undeterred."

Sgt. Shelley Rutherford gave the other two officers the order to shoot the dogs.

Gaudet confirmed reports that the dogs' owner has been given a citation.
