Georgia Power is letting extra water out of Lake Sinclair to offset recent heavy rainfall.
Greg Brown, Plant Manager for Central Georgia Hydro Group, which manages Sinclair Dam and 2 others, says they opened one spillway gate at 10 a.m. Friday.
Brown says there are 24 gates total and the turbines can only pass a certain amount of water out of lake into the Oconee River, so they routinely open gates to keep the lake from overflowing and damaging docks.
Brown says he expects to close the gate later Friday afternoon.
Viewer Jesse Ethridge shared several pictures from below the dam.
