A building on Mercer University's campus was evacuated Monday afternoon after a gas leak was reported.

According to Chief of Campus Police Gary Collins, a construction crew hit a gas line near Penfield Hall around 2:30 p.m.  The building was evacuated immediately and no injuries were reported.

The Macon-Bibb Fire Department and the gas company responded to the scene.

Collins says Penfield Hall used to house the university's bookstore and ROTC.  Construction in the area is for the new Cruz Plaza.
