Montezuma Police celebrate this week as their re-certification ranked in the Top 15 Percent in Georgia.
According to a release, the department has decreased the town's crime rate by over 66 percent in the past two years.
This marks the third time the department has received the award in the thirteen years they have sought the certification.
Re-certification helps law enforcement review and improve effectiveness and acknowledges that agency practices match "progressive professional standards."
The Montezuma Police Department had to meet 129 standards to receive this recognition.
