For 17 years, Baskets of Joy, a Musella nonprofit has provided Easter baskets to hundreds of kids in children's homes throughout Central Georgia. But this year, they're looking for more help to put the baskets together.
Katie Jones says her nonprofit organization is close to her heart because she grew up in a children's home and never had Easter Baskets.
"Well I grew up in children's homes and foster homes so I know how it is not to have, I remember when I was a little kid hearing the other children talk about what they would get for easter from the easter bunny and I never had that experience," said Jones.
But this year, it's not just about putting together the Easter baskets for 275 local children. She's also battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma and getting radiation treatment five days a week.
"My energy level is low making it a lot more challenging this year but still we're gong to make it," said Jones.
But Jones says despite her health that she wants to make sure to give Central Georgian kids easter baskets.
"I feel this is one of my purposes in life and my husband talked to me about us skipping this year and I said no I just we can't skip," said Jones.
Jones said they still need chocolates, toys, books and other supplies for the baskets. You can contact her at 478-972-9224.
