A large Dublin family is mourning a couple who died in Wednesday's wreck in I-16.

Clayton and Josephine Warnock were traveling to Atlanta for a medical appointment to check his pacemaker.

That's according to Catherine Baggett, Mrs. Warnock's daughter.

"They were both Christians, and they're with the Lord," she said,
"We're at peace with that."

Baggett said her mother was 74 and her stepfather around 80. They'd been married for more than 20 years, she said.

Clayton Warnock was a Laurens County native, who retired from the Forstmann textile mill. Her mother, a retired homemaker, moved to the area from east Texas, she said.

The couple had three children each and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

They attended the Church of God in Dublin.

So far, Baggett said, authorities have not shared many details of what happened to the couple on Interstate 16 Wednesday morning. She said authorities have subpoenaed their dental records to assist in identifying them.

Funeral arrangements for the couple are not set.

Two other people died in the chain-reaction wrecks.

FedEx confirmed Thursday that one of them, Michael Smith of Covington, was driving a company truck driver for them.

And the Associated Press reported that Joel Moore of Effingham County worked for International Paper and was headed to a meeting.
