Georgia Department of Transportation says they plan to turn on the traffic light at the State Route 49 and Woodland intersection in Byron by February 15th. Road construction on Chapman Road could conclude that same date.

But some Byron businesses said they aren't sure that's enough to bring traffic back on Chapman Road.

Before the roadwork started, drivers on Highway 49 could turn right directly onto Chapman Road.

When the work is finished, they'll have to travel about 1,200 feet further, then right on Woodland and then left at the the first four-way stop.

"The road construction when it's done it will help out a little bit once it's done once the barrels are gone. Hopefully they start getting visitors and they're not too scared to get over here," said Manny Vyas, owner of Quality Inn.

But the businesses that 13WMAZ talked to said they aren't sure people won't have a hard time finding the road.

"After 6:00 p.m., or 7:00 p.m.,  it gets dark and visitors have a very hard time getting over here and finding the place it makes it very difficult," said Vyas.

And they hope that the next project will be additional streetlights.

We contacted Georgia Department of Transportation about adding streetlights to Chapman.

They said it's not in their contract and that businesses should contact the city.

We couldn't reach Byron's mayor Larry Collins for comment.
