Several assistant district attorneys in the Macon Judicial Circuit may lose their jobs when David Cooke takes office Jan. 1.

Cooke declined comment on the situation Thursday, saying it wouldn't be appropriate for him to discuss personnel changes prior to being sworn in as district attorney.

ADA Gary Wood said he hasn't heard from Cooke directly but that a third party has notified him and several other ADA's that they won't be a part of the Cooke administration.

Wood declined to identify the third party or any of the other ADA's who have received the notification.

There are 21 assistant district attorneys, including the chief assistant, in the Macon Judicial Circuit. The circuit covers Bibb, Crawford and Peach counties.

Cooke, a Democrat, defeated District Attorney Greg Winters, a Republican, in the November general election. Winters term expires Dec. 31. He plans to become an assistant district attorney in the Houston Judicial Circuit in January.
