A 65-year-old woman died after she was shot at a busy east Macon gas station at lunchtime Tuesday. A man was taken into custody.

Macon police said Linda Hunnicutt of Jones County was fatally shot around 1:15 p.m. at the Murphy Express Gas Station at 1402 Gray Highway.

Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet said in a news release that Hunnicutt was shot after arguing with a 73-year-old man whose wheelchair made contact with her car.

Gaudet said the man, Frank Louis Reeves, of Macon, shot the woman in the chest when she got out of her car.

Reeves is being held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.  The jail's website says he is now charged with felony murder.

13WMAZ's Production Manager Barbara Temple was at the nearby shopping center at the time, and arrived just after the shooting.  She says the man was still sitting next to the car while bystanders tried to help the woman, who was laying on the ground. "He was calm, he didn't move, he didn't say anything," Temple said.

Hunnicutt was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said she was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.

Gaudet would not comment on whether Reeves was licensed to carry the weapon.
