A federal inspector will visit the Macon Gardens apartments next week to follow up on tenants' complaints.

Last month, 13WMAZ reported on health and safety problems at the west Macon apartment complex.

Public money from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development pays most of the rent for Macon Garden Apartments.

HUD last inspected Macon Garden Apartments in May 2011. The complex was given a failing score of 35 out of 100.

Agency spokesman, Joseph Phillips, says because the score was so low, HUD should have done a followup inspection, but that never happened. But on Monday, management notified Macon Garden tenants by letter that inspectors will be coming October 17 and 18.

The letter says, in part, that HUD "will be sending an inspector to inspect our community grounds as well as a sample of your apartment homes. It is not necessary for you to be at home for this inspection, but you must have your apartment home in clean and good condition."

The letter also says that management company employees will be entering every apartment in the next two weeks to look at possibly health and safety problems.
