ATLANTA (AP) - Eye care industry leaders are teaming up with a three-time Olympic gold medalist to offer free exams and glasses to those who can't afford them.
As part of the World Sight Day Challenge, VSP Vision Care and Olympic beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor are offering assistance to Atlantans looking for quality eye care.
For five days beginning Oct. 9, those who can't afford quality eye care can receive a free comprehensive exam and a pair of glasses at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. Organizers say they expect to serve about 2,000 people.
Organizers say May-Treanor will be on hand Thursday to speak about how access to vision care helped her achieve her career goals.
Organizers say access to quality eye care can help detect treatable diseases - such as diabetes.
