CLEVELAND, Ga. (AP) - A bronze statue of a gold miner has been put in place to commemorate the discovery of gold in White County.
WDUN reports that the statue was placed on the grounds of the White County Courthouse Museum Tuesday. Artist Gregory Johnson had been working on the statue since its donation was announced in January.
The money for the statue came from Annette Adams of Cleveland, who made the donation in memory of her late husband Gene. She was on hand as the statue was placed on its base.
Historical Society president Judy Lovell says the organization plans to hold an official dedication ceremony soon.
