SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah say a man who was found dead after a car crash had been shot before the accident.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Julian Miller says 38-year-old Roderick Richardson's car crashed into a chain link fence Thursday morning and the man was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center. Authorities launched an investigation into the man's death after determining wounds he sustained were inconsistent with the severity of the crash.

The department's violent crimes detectives are probing the man's death.
