AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz has asked the state university system to conduct an independent review of how school resources were used to host a private wedding at his home.
School officials have said the Azziz family will reimburse the university for costs of a state-owned bus that provided transportation for wedding guests.
The Augusta Chronicle reports that Azziz wants an impartial review. The request comes after the Chronicle on Tuesday reported on Saturday's wedding. The event was held on the grounds of the Azziz residence, which is property of the University Board of Regents.
School spokeswoman Christen Carter said she was originally told that four school police department employees volunteered their time, but was later told they were paid in cash by the bride and groom.
