ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Public Services Commissioner Lauren McDonald has been appointed vice-chair of a national subcommittee on nuclear waste.
Officials Thursday said McDonald was named vice-chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners waste disposal subcommittee. Public Service Commission spokeswoman Patricia Welcome says McDonald is tasked with working with Congress and stakeholder groups to make sure money collected for long-term nuclear and radioactive waste is used for that purpose.
Welcome says spent fuel is stored at 121 nuclear generating sites in 39 states.
