AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Nonperishable food that was set outside when a grocery store was evicted in Augusta is set to be donated to a local food bank.

Travis McNeal Executive director of Golden Harvest tells the Augusta Chronicle nonperishable food destined for a local landfill will be sorted, inspected and distributed to the hungry.

The food was set outside Tuesday when a grocery store was evicted from its building. Police said between 200 and 300 people lined up in the store's parking lot and became angry when authorities told them they could not take away goods that had been piled up outside.
