CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - A prominent opposition politician in Venezuela is asking the Carter Center to push President Hugo Chavez's government toward granting an amnesty to more than 100 people in prison or exile.
Lawmaker Edgar Zambrano has been campaigning for an amnesty deal that would benefit dozens of Venezuelans in exile and others who are seen by opposition politicians as "political prisoners."
Zambrano has given the office of Vice President Nicolas Maduro case files of people hoping for an amnesty.
Government officials deny Venezuela has political prisoners.
Zambrano visited the Carter Center's local headquarters in Caracas on Wednesday, saying he believes former U.S. President Jimmy Carter could help.
