LITHONIA, Ga. (WXIA) -- When 59-year-old Melba Williams saw news reports Myrai Robinson was inside a van stolen from New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, she started praying.
"I was just asking God to put a shield over that little girl," she said.
She was headed home for a lunch break when she spotted the stolen van in the parking lot of Lithonia High School, less than three miles from the original crime scene.
She was concerned the suspect might still be nearby, but she said she had to see if the little girl was OK. "I just said to myself, I gotta do what I gotta do," she said. She approached the van from the opposite end of the parking lot. "I just kept thinking about little Myrai Robinson, and what if that was one of my little great grandbabies?"
She could hear the 2-year-old crying through the open window, and called 911. She talked to the toddler while they waited for police to arrive.
