Rock legend Little Richard hopes that C. Jack Ellis will be slippin' and slidin' back into the mayor's office.
He's endorsed Ellis in this summer's race to become the first mayor of the combined Macon and Bibb County, according to a news release from the Ellis campaign.
Both men are natives of Macon's Pleasant Hill neighborhood.
Little Richard, born Richard Penniman in Macon in 1932, returned last week to receive an honorary degree at Mercer University's commencement.
Elllis served as mayor from 1999-2007 and lost a close runoff to Mayor Robert Reichert two years ago.
Ellis, Reichert and four other candidates face off in a July vote.
The Ellis news release says, in part, "Mr. Penniman is impressed with the commitment to the city that Ellis demonstrated in his past terms in the mayor's office, and he supports Ellis being elected for another term. Little Richard encourages the voters of Macon to support Mr. C. Jack Ellis in the July 16th election.
"Former Mayor Jack Ellis stated that he is very pleased and humbled to have the endorsement of such an accomplished and legendary artist and plans to keep Richard's good faith in him when elected to office."
