A former Central High School principal is filling Suzanne Griffin-Ziebart's position as Deputy Superintendent for Bibb County Schools.

Erin Weaver came out of retirement for this position and she'll be working part-time. Weaver said the last four days of being in this position have been a "blur of activity" and that the school day doesn't end when the children go home. She said it ends when the work is done.

Class sizes are big on Weaver's list. She said they want to make sure there isn't overcrowding.

"We want everybody to have optimal learning environments. During times of money crunching, you've got to be creative in ways that you use money, but you have to set teachers and students up for success. So right now, the major thing that we're looking at this week is looking at where the numbers are," said Weaver.

Weaver only plans to be deputy superintendent for a year, the same as interim Superintendent Steve Smith.

Weaver shared what qualities the next superintendent needs to have. "I think they should be relationship builders. I think they should understand the desires of the community to have a good school, and I think they need to use the wonderful people, the teachers and administrators that we have in this community, to better our community," she said.

This month also marks 10 years since her son, Mike, was shot and killed in Atlanta. Weaver said he would be excited about her new position.

"When I became an assistant principal, I sat the three kids and my husband down. I said, 'What do you think?' And Mike and Dan were both at Central at the time, and Mike said, 'Momma, I don't plan on getting sent to the assistant principal's office, so that's fine.' And I know what Mike would say right now, 'Follow your dreams, enjoy every day and keep a smile on your face,'" said Weaver. "And that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Tell the truth. Be transparent and help all of us be successful."

The upcoming 6th Annual Weaver's Weekend is in honor of him.

"His friends have a foundation and they raise money for youth sports in Bibb County, and they give it away in sweat equity, and they give money away also," she said.

Weaver's Weekend has been scheduled for August 24th. For more information you can visit
