Steve Smith joined Kenny Burgamy on Eyewitness News at Midday on Wednesday to talk about his new position as Bibb County interim superintendent.
In interviews with 13WMAZ on Wednesday, Smith said he's been at school board headquarters this week getting acquainted with the staff. He said he also hopes to meet with members of the Board of Education.
Smith said he will be sworn into office on Monday at noon.
As interim superintendent, he wants to get the community all on the same page, which he said was also the district's biggest problem.
Smith said he had been enjoying a semi-retirement after retiring as Lowndes County's superintendent in July 2012.
After spending 35 years in the Bibb community, Smith said he felt a calling to return to Macon and that he considers Macon his home.
