ATLANTA (AP) - Four people - including an outgoing state senator - have been tapped by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve on the State Board of Regents.

The state Board of Regents oversees the 35 colleges in the University System of Georgia. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Democratic state Sen. George Hooks will serve on the board. He was first elected to the General Assembly in 1980 and did not run for re-election.

Vice President for economic development at Ogeechee Technical College, Lori Durden, will also serve on the board. President of Northwest Georgia Bank, Scott Smith and former President of the Georgia Public Policy Foundation Rogers Wade have also been selected.

The outgoing regents are Robert Hatcher, W. Mansfield Jennings, James Jolly and Willis Potts.
