Mercer University receives a $1.5 million grant to fund College Street's Bell House renovation to house the McDuffie Center for Strings.

According to a news release, the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation's grant will allow for the McDuffie Center for Strings to have a separate facility outside of Mercer's McCorkle Music Building.

Mercer's music program has grown to 125 students, with 25 of those students in the McDuffie Center for Strings. Currently, the 125 students fight to use the music building's 16 practice rooms.

Once the historic 315 College St. house is renovated, the space will accommodate the maximum limit of 26 students with teaching rooms, practice rooms and a 60-seat performance hall.
