Yolunda Shinholster says she was speechless when 13WMAZ junior journalist Hillary Fobbs-Glenn came into her classroom to tell her she was this week's "My Teacher is Tops", but her students weren't surprised at all.
Ms. Shinholster is a 5th grade teacher at Wilkinson County Elementary School. As a Math teacher, she's tough, but helpful, and in the end, that's something her students say they appreciate.
"She takes the time to teach us stuff and she lets us write on the board, and she's nice," says student Emily Hubbard.
Shinholster says she's wanted to be a teacher ever since she was young. When she became a teacher 16 years ago, she won "My Teacher is Tops" her first year on the job.
Since then, that student went on to college at the University of Georgia, and Shinholster says she loves hearing about her students future successes. It's a legacy that came full circle today, as she won the award for the second time in her career.
