Stephana Lynch is a chorus teacher at Howard Middle School.
"My favorite song is 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend' because I like diamonds," says 8th grader Caroline Mayfield who nominated Ms. Lynch with the help of her sister Sarah.
"So far it's the song we are doing sign language to, and it's called 'A Wonderful World,'" says 6th grader Sarah.
Ms. Lynch teachers 230 students. Seventh and eighth grade are separated into different genders. She's currently teaching a class of 7th grade boys.
"She likes doing fun songs. She lets us do fun things. She's not strict," says Haiz Webb who is in 7th grade. "She doesn't demand that we do exactly what she wants. She lets us blossom into out own form of singers."
Ms. Lynch has been teaching for 21 years. "Since the school opened in 2004, Ms. Lynch has been teaching kids how to sing and read music like a pro in class," says Sarah Mayfield. "She not only teaches us cool songs, but we also have cool dance moves to go with the frisky, bouncy music."
She takes her students to different chorus competitions in and out of the state.
"She shows us how to do something, and she'll show us and make us change it the best she can. She'll keep working with us until she gets it right, until we get it right," says 7th grader Dayton Steinmeyer.
They're good because they brought home a table full of trophies.
"I love when they are proud of themselves and they have that feeling of accomplishment and it shows on their faces. That is just what I love," says Ms. Lynch.
