Fifth and sixth graders at Brentwood School in Sandersville say their teacher goes the extra mile every day.

After 24 years of teaching, Jeanie Lee says her biggest surprise came Wednesday.

"I've never had anything like this," she says, accepting her award.

Fifth grader Avery Phillips says her teacher doesn't leave anyone behind.

"She is great at explaining things from the past that can still exist today. Ms. Lee has a fascinating way of making reading interesting and fun to learn," says Phillips.

Other students say she turns the page to a new way of learning.

"She'll go through it and then if we have any questions about it, she'll ask us those," says sixth grader, Eli Diaz.

She goes in depth with her students to help them understand.

"My class has a quiz coming up, but I know everyone will do very well. And that's because my teacher is tops," says Phillips.

"It took me totally by surprise," says Lee, "I still can't believe it. I am excited, and I'm so appreciative."

Now, they're learning regular and irregular verbs.

"She gives us rules to go by if we don't understand," says Jacey Sims.
