Christmas in July Ice Cream Cake

1 10 ¾ ounce pound cake in the freezer section

1 half gallon vanilla ice cream in a rectangle container

1 16 ounce container cool whip

6 oz of peppermints crushed, save a few crushed candies for topping the cake. (during the Christmas holiday I use candy canes)

Slice cake length wise in thirds

Open ice cream carton and slice ice cream about one inch thick and put on first layer of cake, add about 1/3 of the crushed peppermint candies, repeat for next two layers. Ice with cool whip and top with a few crushed candies. Freeze for several hours, slice and enjoy.
