ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Scott Pelley, anchor of "The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley" is slated to host the 72nd annual George Foster Peabody Awards ceremony in New York City.
The Peabody award is the oldest and among the most prestigious awards given in broadcast media. Selections are made by a 16-member board following review by special screening committees of University of Georgia faculty, students and staff.
A local TV station's coverage of the Connecticut school massacre, the HBO drama "Girls," and a public-service campaign about Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts' medical battle were among 39 Peabody Award winners announced Wednesday.
Pelly became anchor and managing editor CBS's flagship newscast in May 2011, after more than 20 years with the network. The ceremony is set for May 20.
