The former sheriff of Wilcox County pleaded guilty to assault and conspiracy charges. Federal prosecutors announced the plea today. Former sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth is accused of hitting three inmates and trying to cover up the attack.
Bloodsworth's son, Austin, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. Three other people have already pleaded guilty to charges related to the July 2009 assault.
The former sheriff faces up to ten years in prison on a civil rights violation charge and up to 5 years on a conspiracy charge. Austin Bloodsworth faces up to 5 years on the conspiracy charge.
