What do Congress, cockroaches, zombies and Lindsay Lohan have in common?
That's the question posed by Republican Carl DeMaio, who is trying to unseat Democratic Rep. Scott Peters in a San Diego-based district.
DeMaio's Web ad plays off an eye-catching survey by Public Policy Polling last year that found voters have a higher opinion of such things as hemorrhoids, dog poop and, yes, cockroaches and zombies than Congress. But PPP's poll showed voters actually prefer Congress to some celebrities in the headlines such as Miley Cyrus, Lindsey Lohan and the Kardashians.
"Unlike out-of-control celebrities, roaches and walking dead people, Congress actually affects our lives every day," the narrator says. "Carl DeMaio thinks its time to clean up the mess in Congress and take a new approach to solving problems."
DeMaio is proposing overhauling Congress, such as eliminating congressional pensions.
The ad also includes images of Peters and Bob Filner, an ex-congressman and former San Diego mayor, on a screen noting that Congress' job-approval rating hit a record low. Filner resigned as mayor last year amid allegations of sexual harassment.
