Trey Payne is a big time leader on the Northside High football team. As a linebacker, Payne brings the pain while quarterbacking one of the top defenses in the state.

"It's a physical position you get to make alot of plays and you' re always around the football," says the senior defensive captain.

His head coach Kevin Kinsler has watched him continue to get better and better as a 3 year starter for the highly touted Eagles.

"He's a very intelligent young man", says Kinsler. "He makes alot of checkoffs for us and he's just an outstanding student and a good young man as well."

Trey further explains, "You have to be a leader. You have to be outspoken. You have to be a football player."

In the classroom Trey tackles the books just as hard to the tune of a 3.2 GPA.

"I know football is only going to last so long and its not like I have a choice my Mom makes me get my grades", says Payne with a chuckle. "For me school always came easy, football was the hard part. So if I do well in school, football will come easy its a direct correlation."

Kinsler elaborates, "He does alot of character things for us. He tries to set an example for those younger kids. He's just a good kid to be around and a valuable part of our program."
So with only 3 possible games remaining on the schedule, Trey plans to lead his team to victory in every one, so he can graduate with one goal completed.

"To win a state championship like it is every year", Payne says without hesitation.

The Eagles are currently undefeated at 12-0 and will host Tucker, Friday Night at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. We'll have those highlights and more on Football Friday Night.
