Shortly after 11 this morning.....a judge sentenced 36-year-old Jeffrey Keith Sligh to 20 years in prison...for burglary/o

<as he was going into custody of the monroe county sheriffs department, decided to escape their custody. He fled the courthouse, he entered a personal vehicle that I guess was someone located in the parking lot. >

Dustin Roberts lives several blocks away....on West Johnston street...where Sligh's car flipped over.

<the police surrounded the truck and it looked the guy was actually gonna give up. But when he got down. He jumped straight into the police car.>

Roberts says that's when police opened fire.

Sligh drove on West Johnston in a Monroe County deputy's car.....toward interstate 75.

Eric Wilson was at a mexican restaurant...and saw police cars in pursuit.

< lights flashing and the first one I noticed was looked like going into the interstate and he turned too long and hit a pole. >

That was the cruiser....driven by sligh.

<they were able to bring him to a stop over here near i75 in the on-ramp. he was in the car that's lifted off the back, that's into the telephone pole over there. >

Officers then took him into custody... And he's now in the Monroe County jail.

To help... We're offering you a chance to get your health care questions answered by experts... tomorrow.

Starting at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon...

Some of the University of Georgia's Healthcare Navigators will join us in studio to help you with your questions about the state's new health exchange.

We'll also talk to them during eyewitness news at 5 and 6 to find out some of the most common questions they're getting.

That's tomorrow right here on 13wmaz.

They talked about how they would improve it... And obstacles that have stood in the way.

Mike Brashear: "If there is any candidate trying to run for a city office talking about the power of that office, I would strongly encourage each and every one of you to vote against that candidate. This position is not one of power. It's one of service. I hope you would consider me to be your next mayor in November."

Eva Folse: "You don't hold, I don't like secret meetings, it's kind of been referred to that when working with certain council people and not.. And when you don't have the city attorney in the loop. The city attorney is not informed about everything that's going on, that's bad."

Daron Lee: "One thing we have improved on is communication and that has been a major barrier with in the council. What I would bring as mayor of the City of Warner Robins is a strong communication chain, communicating in the beginning with council, as well as giving council the window to communicate with me."

Joe Musselwhite: "I always get along with every council person, every citizen that's possible, every city employee. As I said in my opening statement, be transparent and accountable for what we do. Nobody will spend any money if we don't know what its for. If it doesn't pass the smell test, it will not be on the agenda under my mayoralship."

Randy Toms: "Communication in my line of work for the last 27 years, if you don't communicate. people die. In my opinion, if the city government doesn't communicate with each other and doesn't communicate with the department heads and doesn't communIcate with the employees and doesn't communicate with the citizens, then the city dies."

>The sixth candidate ... Chuck Chalk.. Said he planned to attend todays forum.

However... his son's military deployment was moved up... And he went to Atlanta for his send-off.

Early voting for the mayor's race and four council seats starts next Tuesday... October 15th.

Election day is Tuesday... November 5th.
