Pit Bull attacks have been in the headline several times in recent months.

This past weekend in South Macon.. Police shot another two pits for killing a small puppy being walked by two men.

As Judy Le tells us... not everyone believes these animals are vicious.

Meet Bruiser ... An eight month old pup who rules this house ..

<trent phelps, macon - i think he believes that everybody, including the people in my band are only here to see him>

His friend ... Atticus is a little older ... At 4 years old .. But an even bigger baby

<Wade Pritchett, forsyth - they'll be bad if you want them to be bad, but if you want them to be a lazy, 70 pound pit bull that sits on the couch and cries every time you walk out the door, this is what you're going to get right here>

They have one thing in common ... A breed with a bad reputation

<wade - i have gotten, oh he's a pit bull has he bitten you before? And he's like oh he will>

Pit Bulls top the list of dogs recognized as more likely to attack and cause injury.

<standup - in bibb county there were 124 dog bites reported this year. 1 in 5 are related to pit bulls and pit bull mixes>

<it's a circumstance thing, it's not that the breed is violent and that they want to hurt children>

Bruiser and Atticus look intimidating -- They're strong animals that play rough. With a long-standing stigma and recent stories of pit bull attacks ...

<wade - that's a scary thought that people are looking at a few bad eggs in the bunch instead of dogs like this who wouldn't hurt a fly>

Once skeptical of this breed ... Both owners are now pit bull converts

Judy Le 13wmaz eyewitness news

Five Georgia communities -- College Park, Floyd County, LaGrange, Lawrenceville and Terrell County -- have breed specific laws that deal with pit bulls.

One man in Houston County got an eye-full when he looked out his window one morning.

He told our Jennifer Moulliet about an early riser on a hunt in his trash can.

Each week Eric Blanton puts his trash can at the end of his driveway... But this week... Someone took a look... Before the truck came.

<they pulled up into the driveway, turned their flashers on, got out of the car, went to our trash can and started pulling all of my trash out of it tearing open bags going through them>

Blanton says the scavenger even took two bags with him.

He called the houston county sheriff's office... And a deputy came out.

But Blanton says he was surprised when the officer said there was nothing he could do.

Kelvin Collins with the Central Georgia's better business bureau explains why.

<once you take it to the side of the road and it's on the curb it's on public property and someone can go through it and there's really nothing you or the police can do>

Blanton was shocked to learn...

<If they were going through it by the house that's trespassing but being that it was at the street it's okay for them to go through my trash and get what they want out of there >

Collins says you should shred all items that contain personal information... Like account numbers... Or social security numbers before trashing it.

He says often people look for pre-approved credit cards in other's trash.

<if you don't shred that someone can take it out of your trash, fill it out do a change of address and very possibly get a credit card in your name coming to their address >

<main thing I worry about is when the credit card company sends you blank checks you know did I shred all of them before I put them in the trash can or did I just throw them in the trash can. >

Blanton says he'll make sure there's nothing to find... The next time someone chooses to dig through his trash.

Kelvin Collins also suggests dropping your mail off at the post office to be mailed out.

He says raising the red flag on your mailbox... Doesn't only alert the mail man to pick up outgoing items... It also alerts thieves.

Today's 13 WMAZ dot com web poll asks...

Houston County schools can cross another project of the list.

Come this fall... There will two changes on South Davis Drive... The upgrades to McConnell-Talbert... And a brand new elementary school.

CB Watson was built with safety in mind.

<this school's all under one roof no auxillary buildings. The front doors are the main entry point which you come through a secured vestibule whenever you enter the building which keeps people from just walking through. They have to check in at the office before they enter into the classroom space.>

Houston Facilities Director Jason Daniel showed us around.

Its 41 classrooms will house 6 hundred and 50 students.

The opening of CB Watson replaces Crossroads Academy... And it starts a string of changes for students in that area.

It's a little confusing.

This year... children in grades K through five... that used to attend Linwood Elementary... Will go to school at CB Watson.

Linwood is closed this year for nearly 9 million dollars in renovations.

Then next year... the school system will combine the Pearl Stephens Elementary and Linwood Elementary districts.

Those children in kindergarten through 2nd grade... Will go to CB Watson.

Third, fourth and fifth graders will go to Linwood... Which will then be renamed Pearl Stephens Elementary.

The old Pearl Stephens will become the county's alternative school.

CB Watson cost about 12 million dollars to build.

It was paid for the 2012 Education SPLOST.

A group of young professionals want to inspire their peers to contribute to the good in Macon and Bibb County.

Randall Savage talks with two organizers... Who are leading the charge.

The group is called Concerned Young Adults of Macon....and they will host a community forum tomorrow.

Here to talk to us about the forum is Danny Glover and Molly Wilkins.

Joining the PGA tour is no easy task... But Bowden Golf Course in Macon is bringing in professionals to give kids a few tips.

Katelyn Heck explains more about the clinics.

Khyle Bentley's been swinging clubs since....

<I had little tine clubs in my hand. I loved it.>

Some say he looks like a young Tiger Woods...

<everyone compares me to him, and he's my favorite golfer.>

But Bentley doesn't want to just look like Tiger... He wants to play like him too.

<there's a lot of things I like to try to mimic with him and my dad tries to put me in some of his positions>

And for other central Georgia golfers who want to play like the big hitters... Bowden Golf Course is bringing in PGA professionals.

<ray cutwright, keith brady, just to name a couple>

<we want to inspire future generations to continue playing the game of golf>

<and they can learn the game and actually have a new sport with them, something they probably thought they would never play, and they can come here and actually start loving it>

<it will be really neat to see professional golfers come out here and show 'em what they've got>

Bentley and his golf partner Joshua Jones say practicing the sport is about more than just putting and chipping.

<it's a mental game. You've got to keep your attitude straight. You've got to get your mind in the right place>

And whether they're stuck in a rough patch... Or smooth sailing on the green... Golf teaches them all kinds of life lessons.

<focus, patience, and mostly patience, because it's hard to keep calm on this golf course, and you just have to fight through it>

Bowden scheduled a few adult sessions for this week... But had to cancel after no one signed up...

So director Nathan Caffarelli hopes to recruit more young golfers.... To next week's clinics... And the sport.

Katelyn Heck 13WMAZ Eyewitness News

Caffarelli says Bowden may reschedule the adult clinic for later this summer.

The kid's four-day session starts next Monday.

The cost is 75 dollars.
