Good evening and thanks for joining us.
I'm Leah Johnson.
Frank Malloy has the night off.
The chill outside can't cool Final Four Fever here in Georgia.
Players, coaches and fans have been rolling into Atlanta by bus, plane, and car... Bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city.
It's about more than just the game.
The weekend is highlighted by a full lineup of final four events... many of them free.
Of course you can catch the game right here on 13WMAZ if you have plans to enjoy it from home...
Tonight... Courtney Lyle has a rundown of the players who will take the court tomorrow.
Leah, of course one of the most recognizable faces from this year's tournament... is Kevin Ware... after his painful injury last weekend.
He's been absent from some of the leadup events... Because he just doesn't have the strength or energy for too many public appearances.
But as Randy Waters from WXIA shows us, his physical absence... doesn't mean his fans are sticking to the sidelines.
of course the basketball games are the big draw this weekend...
here are the tip-times for saturday's national semifinals....
Tomorrow at 6-09 louisville goes up against wichita state...
and then... At around 8-49 p-m it's michigan and syracuse...
of course - whoever wins goes onto the championship game monday night at the dome.
And yes... the Final Four has a soundtrack with some pretty big names this year.
The N-C-A-A's big Dance concert series will feature the Dave Matthews band, Sting, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
The three Day, free music festival will take place in Centennial Olympic Park this weekend.
But those headliners will take the stage on Sunday.
Just a short drive to see some major performances.
Not so short if you get stuck in traffic though.
Atlanta law enforcement is cautioning people headed into the city to leave early, be patient, and be prepared to walk, since parking could be a tangle.
In other news tonight... the search for missing swimmer Austin Cross will resumes in the morning.
This is video from Amerson River Park earlier today... where divers and boat crews continued to look for any sign of the 24 year old, who was swimming Monday when he went under.
The search resumed this morning after weather halted it yesterday.
Cadaver dogs have helped narrow the search to a specific area.
But crews say the water is seven inches higher than it was the last time they searched.. and the water temperature is three degrees cooler... factors that can hinder their work.
A Georgia judge says he wants a trial before the year ends for a teenager charged with fatally shooting a baby in the face.
Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley told attorneys in the case Friday he expects a 2013 trial for 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins.
The suspect, seen here in court video from last month, is charged with malice murder in the slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago two weeks ago in the coastal city of Brunswick.
Police say the child was shot as Elkins and a younger teenager tried to rob the boy's mother.
The judge denied Elkins' request for bond Friday, saying he's concerned the suspect might flee.
Elkins' great grandfather, McKinley Elkins, tried to assure the judge that if the teenager was released on bond, he would be, quote, "a gentleman from this day forward."
