MONDAY MARKS THE START OF EARLY VOTING ACROSS CENTRAL GEORGIA...
PEOPLE ACROSS THE AREA CAN CAST A VOTE ON TOPICS LIKE SPLOST PROJECTS.. AND DECIDE SEVERAL RACES FOR JUDGES... BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS... AND SHERIFF.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES LEFT UP TO THE PEOPLE THIS YEAR IS THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE CITY OF MACON... AND BIBB COUNTY...
Yes, I will be voting early this year because I don't support consolidation. Because it will cause people to lose their jobs and right now we're already in a time of deep recession. So, I'm not for consolidation.
Tony Lyons
I am a supporter of consolidation, yes I am. Uh, I think it's gonna be good for our community; that we have one voice. Also, I think it will be important to our community to reduce our cost and have a more efficient governemnt.
BUT WHATEVER SIDE OF THE ISSUES YOU STAND ON... ONE MACON MAN SAYS... VOTING IS SOMETHING EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE PART IN.
Voting is important because it's the last freedom that we have that might could make a differnece in the way we're governed. Although with special parties out there and all the influence of big money - I'm afraid we don't have as many rights as we once had.
11 STATES APPROVED NEW RULES OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS REQUIRING PEOPLE TO PROVIDE IDENTIFICATION WHEN THEY VOTE.
GEORGIA AND INDIANA WERE THE FIRST STATES TO ADOPT STRICT I-D RULES.
ACCORDING TO AN ASSOCIATED PRESS REVIEW OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS... MORE THAN 12-HUNDRED VOTES WERE TOSSED IN THE 2008 ELECTION IN BOTH STATES.
THESE NUMBERS SUGGEST THAT THE LEGITIMATE VOTES TOSSED OUT ARE FAR MORE NUMEROUS THAN THE CASES OF FRAUD... WHICH THE NEW RULES TRY TO PREVENT.
MORE THAN TWO DOZEN STATES HAVE SOME FORM OF I-D REQUIREMENT.
