YOU JUST HEARD FROM ONE WOMAN WHO SCRAMBLED OUT OF HER WARNER ROBINS APARTMENT COMPLEX LAST NIGHT AS FLAMES TOOK OVER HER HOME.

TODAY... HEAR FROM FOLKS WHO SAY THEY'RE THANKFUL THEY GOT OUT UNHARMED... AFTER A FIRE DESTROYED 24 UNITS AT THE SANDPIPER APARTMENTS.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE, AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.... I'M LEAH JOHNSON..

AND I'M LORRA LYNCH JONES.

FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF.

WE'LL HAVE AN UPDATE ON THE AFTERMATH OF THAT DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN JUST A FEW MOMENTS...

BUT FIRST... OUR TOP STORY AT SIX...

A 12-YEAR OLD GIRL DIED TUESDAY NIGHT... AND NOW AUTHORITIES ARE LOOKING FOR HER SISTER.

BRITTINY BARBER IS IN THE 13-W-M-A-Z NEWS INFORMATION CENTER WITH MORE ON WHAT WE KNOW.

LORRA, THE HOUSTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING THIS CASE AS A HOMICIDE.

THEY SAYS THEY WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH THE VICTIM'S OLDER SISTER ABOUT THE INCIDENT..

17 YEAR OLD CARMEN COLLINS IS A BLACK FEMALE.. 5 FEET 4 INCHES TALL.. AND WEIGHING ABOUT 130 POUNDS..

SHE HAS A TATTOO OF THE NAME "NEISHA" ON HER LEFT HAND IN BLUE AND GREEN VINES..

INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE CARMEN MAY BE DRIVING A WHITE 20-11 ACURA T-L TECH.. WITH GEORGIA LICENSE PLATE B-K-Z 44-72.

CAPTAIN ROBERT CLARK... CALLS HER A PERSON OF INTEREST IN HER SISTERS DEATH.. AND SAYS SHE'S THE ONLY PERSON LAW ENFORCEMENT IS LOOKING FOR.

Robert Clark: The actual cause of death can not be determined until the autopsy. Based on prelimimary evidence at the scene it appears that it is not a natural caused death. And the fire would not be from natural causes that apply.

I ALSO SPOKE TO SOME NEIGHBORS TODAY... WHO SAY THEY FIRST SAW THE FIRE AND TRIED TO HELP.

<< NEIGHBORS SAY THE QUIET STREET OF ADDINGTON DRIVE.. FILLED WITH SIRENS TUESDAY NIGHT... AFTER A FIRE TORE THROUGH THE INSIDE OF THIS HOME.

Kenneth: "I'm shocked. I just can't believe it"

Brittiny: "A neighbor told me around 7 tuesday night he looked out his window and saw flames coming from the home across the road. That's when he told his wife to call 911 and he ran across the street to help."

Kenneth Anderson: "We opened the door. Smoke was coming out of the house, coming out real thick, that we could not go in there so we hollared about 3 or 4 times saying is anybody in the house. We didn;t get answer.

KENNETH ANDERSON SAID HIS WIFE CALLED THE HOMEOWNERS.. JOHN AND ANGELA COLLINS... AND THEY TOLD HIM THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS WERE INSIDE.

BUT ONCE FIRE OFFICIALS ARRIVED.. ANDERSON SAYS ONLY ONE DAUGHTER WAS FOUND.

Kenneth: "Her body was lifeless. They put her in the ambulance and took her off."

NEIGHBORS KNEW THE YOUNG GIRL WELL.

Michael Ware: "She was just full of life, doing cartwheels in the yard. She would come over and say hey to my daughter and bring her puppy over."

Kenneth: She wore glasses her hair was curly.. always smiling and laughing ."

AND THAT MADE THE EVENTS OF TUESDAY NIGHT EVEN HARDER TO BELIEVE FOR PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.

Michael: "this is a normal family. This is not somebody that you would think anything foul about."

BUT THE YELLOW TAPE THAT STILL BLOWS IN THE WIND... SHOWS EVIENCE OF THE TRAGEDY HERE.

LORRA?

THANK YOU, BRITTINY BARBER REPORTING FROM OUR NEWSROOM.

ACCORDING TO THE HOUSTON COUNTY JAIL'S WEBSITE.. CARMEN COLLINS WAS ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY JUNE 29TH.. AND BONDED OUT THE SAME DAY.

THE SMOKE AND FLAMES HAVE SETTLED AFTER AN APARTMENT FIRE IN WARNER ROBINS... BUT THE REALITY IS STILL SINKING IN FOR RESIDENTS.

SOME OF THEM TOLD KATELYN HECK... EVEN THOUGH THEY LOST A LOT OF THEIR BELONGINGS... THEY'RE THANKFUL TO STILL HAVE THEIR LIVES.

(NATS)

PARTS OF THE SANDPIPER APARTMENT BUILDING STILL SIZZLED AFTER THE BLAZE THAT SWEPT 24 UNITS TUESDAY NIGHT.

(SOT:Just glad to be alive, its the fourth of july, i guess that was our fireworks yesterday, unfortunately, so i'm just waiting now for things I can do)

THE WARNER ROBINS FIRE DEPARTMENT SEARCHED BUILDING 20... DETERMING WHICH AREAS WERE SAFE... AND WHICH APARTMENTS WERE HEAVILY DAMAGED.

(SOT:The fire started in the attic and being that its a common attic for this whole apartment building, it spread fast and it involved most of the upper story apartments with fire damage and the first story apartments had some water damage in them as well.)

FIVE FIRE CREWS ARRIVED AT THE APARTMENT COMPLEX OFF LEISURE LAKE DRIVE AROUND 7 P-M TUESDAY.... SHORTLY AFTER SEVERE WEATHER STRUCK MANY AREAS IN CENTRAL GEORGIA.

(SOT: we dont see fires like this often, thank goodness, but theres always a chance for this when theres lightning... if that was indeed the cause.)

LIEUTENANT CHRIS CANNADY WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE LIGHTNING HIT THE TOP OF THE BUILDING AND IGNITED THE FLAMES.

(NATS: so you mostly just want your clothes and stuff?)

FIREMEN COMBED THROUGH APARTMENTS... TRYING TO SALVAGE WHAT'S LEFT OF PEOPLE'S BELONGINGS.

(SOT: i can buy more clothes someday, but i was just worried about my baby and my mama)

IN SOME OF THE LOWER LEVEL UNITS... THEY RESCUED ELECTRONICS... FURNITURE... AND CLOTHES.

BUT CANNADY SAYS HE DOESNT THINK ALL OF THE APARTMENTS WILL BE THAT LUCKY.

(SOT: an engineer will have to go through and decide what can be done with the building.)

BUT FOR NOW... THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PLANS TO ESCORT RESIDENTS THROUGH THE BUILDING... AND HELP THEM PICK UP THE PIECES LEFT OF THEIR HOMES.
