A MACON WOMAN VOICES HER FEARS ABOUT THE THREAT OF A RABID FOX IN HER NEIGHBORHOOD... AND SHE'S NOT ALONE.

GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINNG US.

I'M LEAH JOHNSON.

FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF.

WE'LL GET BACK TO THE MACON RABIES SCARE IN JUST A MOMENT... BUT FIRST.... WE'RE LOOKING AT SOME EXTREMELY WARM TEMPERATURES TONIGHT..

METEOROLOGIST CHRISSY MINER IS IN THE WEATHER CENTER, FILLING IN FOR BEN.

DID WE BREAK ANY RECORDS?

WHEN WE SEE TEMPERATURES SPIKE LIKE THIS... IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE SMART BEFORE YOU HEAD OUTSIDE.

MANY OF THESE TIPS YOU KNOW... BUT WE HOPE THESE REMINDERS FROM THE GEORGIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ARE HELPFUL.

OF COURSE, NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN OR PETS ALONE IN CARS.

EXPERTS ALSO SAY TO WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING.

GEMA (JEEMA) ALSO SAYS TO AVOID STRENOUS WORK DURING THE WARMEST PARTS OF THE DAY.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY.... SPEND AS MUCH TIME INSIDE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON.

WE FOUND A NICE COOL SPOT AT A DOWNTOWN MACON RESTAURANT.

THANKS... CHRISSY.. WE'LL CHECK IN WITH YOU FOR A LOOK AT WHAT TO EXPECT FOR REST OF THE WEEKEND, A LITTLE LATER.

Valerie Pollock, Warner Robins: It;'s really nice to be inside when it's hot like this outside we have the patio so if people want to sit outside they can with umbrellas but it's kinda nice to escape it for a litlte bit with the air condItioning going

FOR A LIST OF MORE TIPS ON STAYING HEALTHY AND SAFE DURING EXTREME HEAT......

GO TO OUR WEBSITE 13WMAZ-DOT COM.

EARLIER ON EYEWITNESS NEWS... JUDY LE SPOKE WITH SOME OTHER CENTRAL GEORGIANS WHO BELIEVE THEY MAY HAVE ENCOUNTERED INFECTED ANIMALS.

YOU CAN SEE THAT REPORT... BY SEARCHING FOR THIS STORY AT 13-W-M-A-Z DOT COM.

PRIMARY ELECTIONS ARE JULY 31... BUT YOU WON'T SEE BIBB COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS ON THE BALLOT... UNTIL AUGUST 21.

THAT'S PART OF AN ORDER THAT CAME DOWN FROM A DISTRICT COURT JUDGE THIS MORNING... THAT SETTLED A LAWSUIT OVER DISTRICT VOTING MAPS.

THE PLAINTIFFS ARGUED THAT USING 12-YEAR-OLD DISTRICT LINES WOULDN'T ENSURE EACH PERSON'S VOTE COUNTED EQUALLY... BECAUSE THE COUNTY'S POPULATION HAS SHIFTED SINCE 2000.

BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE... ANGEL DAVIS-HOPPER, WHO WAS REGISTERED TO RUN AGAINST TOM HUDSON IN DISTRICT 5... WILL NOW HAVE TO REQUALIFY IN DISTRICT TWO.

THAT WOULD PIT HER AGAINST CANDIDATE THELMA DILLARD.

BOTH CANDIDATES SAY THEY HAVE SOME READJUSTING TO DO.

Hopper: "I'm not as familiar with district 2 as I was with district 5 so I have to go back and reevaluate everything and in a lot of ways start all over."

Dillard: "I will have to bring my committee back together, regroup, and start carrying out the campaign we already had. We had a campaign plan and we'll go back to it, but we don't have much time, we don't have the resources we had before."

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER GARY BECHTEL WAS ONE OF THE PLAINTIFFS... ALONG WITH TWO OTHERS RUNNING FOR SCHOOL BOARD.

BECHTEL REACHES HIS TERM LIMIT ON THE BOARD IN DECEMBER... BUT HE SAID HE WANTED TO GO THROUGH WITH THE LAWSUIT AS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE.

"I have served on the board for 12 years. I participated in reapportionment in 2002, I know how important it is, I've seen the population shifts, the deviations, and I knew it was necessary to make sure this got before a judge and the proper maps were put in place. And based on the speediness of the decision made by the judge, it was the right thing ot do."

AGAIN VOTING FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS IS AUGUST 21ST.

THAT GIVES PEOPLE TIME TO QUALIFY IF THEY DECIDE THEY WANT TO RUN IN THE NEW DISTRICTS.

THE ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING TIME RUNS FROM JULY 9 TO JULY 10.

SOME PEOPLE SWEAT MORE THAN OTHERS, AND IT CAN LEAD TO EMBARRASSING PROBLEMS.

WHILE WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROVIDE RELIEF FROM TRIPLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES... RANDALL PINKSTON CHECKS OUT A NEW MEDICAL DEVICE THAT PROMISES TO EASE CHRONIC PERSPIRATION.

<<

Package:

(nats up: rummaging through her purse)

"I go back and forth between using regular and more clinical strength."

(TRACK 1)

Shelby Keefer says she can't ever have enough antiperspirant.

nats

(TRACK 2)

In her purse, at work, at home: this elementary school teacher has strategically placed sticks of antiperspirant everywhere so she can reapply often.

nats "I have it here. (laugh)"

(TRACK 3)

Keefer says from the time she was 10-years-old, she has sweat profusely, sometimes for no reason.

(SOT: Shelby Keefer/Patient)

"A lot of white shirts get ruined or discolored which is annoying."

(nats of nurse) "so you may please lay down, get you comfortable."

(TRACK 4)

Keefer is hoping a new FDA approved treatment will fix her problem. First, a nurse maps out her underarm and gives her 20 to 30 shots of numbing anesthetic.

(nats)

(TRACK 5)

Then the doctor starts to run a device, called MiraDry, over her underarm skin. (animation) It sucks up sections of the skin, and then shoots them with microwaves.

(SOT: Dr. David Goldberg/Skin Laser and Surgery Specialist)

"We're actually heating up the junction between the 2nd and 3rd layer of the skin and we're destroying the sweat glands."

(Standup Bridge: Randall Pinkston /CBS News)

"1 in 5 Americans feel they sweat too much...a condition called hyperhidrosis...and antiperspirants dont do a lot to help. Before MiraDry, the most sought-after treatment was Botox injections, which stops sweating for a few months."

(TRACK 6)

A company study shows patients who used miradry experienced an 82 percent reduction in sweat over 18 months.

(nats)

(TRACK 7)

Keefer has a few weeks of soreness and swelling ahead of her...then she must repeat the process a second time.

(SOT: Shelby Keefer/Patient)

"If it gets rid of most of my sweating, then yeah, it's worth it."

Most patients say the results are immediate

HERE'S THE HITCH LADIES....

RIGHT NOW, THE PRICE TAG ON THAT PROCEDURE IS BETWEEN TWO AND THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

STILL MORE AHEAD...
