GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF.
CREWS AROUND MACON STAYED BUSY TODAY DESPITE THE RAIN... FILMING SCENES FROM HARRISON FORD'S NEW MOVIE... "42."
THAT INCLUDED FILMING AT A HOME ON HIGH STREET.
OUR SUZANNE LAWLER TOOK THESE PHOTOS OF CAST AND CREW TODAY.
SHE ALSO GOT A FEW SNAPSHOTS OF NEIGHBORS BASKING IN ALL OF THE MOVIE MAKING MAGIC.
CREWS ROLLED OUT SOME CLASSIC CARS... PUT UP TENTS AND A STAGING AREA.
THEY BEGAN FILMING THIS EVENING... AND SHOT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.
SOME OF THE NEIGHBORS TOLD US THAT THE CREW ASKED THEM TO MOVE THEIR CARS OFF THE STREET.
WE CAUGHT UP WITH ONE FAMILY WHO LIVES NEAR ALL THE EXCITEMENT TO GET THEIR REACTION.
"Hi, my name is Debbie Byrne. I'm here with my daughters Alandra and Wiley, and we live across from where the movie's being filmed on High Street. This morning, a film crew came to our door and asked if they could film in our hallway. We were really really excited this morning. And they came in, and of course, they told us, believe it or not, our hallway was too grand. So we were really really elated, then we were really really upset that they weren't going to film there, but we were really glad to meet everybody, and we're happy to have the film and see all the filming of the movie that's happening today. So, it's been great."
CREWS FILMED ON THE STREET TONIGHT... AND WRAPPED UP SHORTLY AFTER 8 P-M.
THEY PLAN TO FILM ANOTHER SCENE TOMORROW MORNING.
THE RAIN DID PUT A BIT OF A DAMPER ON FILMING AT LUTHER WILLIAMS FIELD.
EXTRAS SAY DIRECTORS CANCELED A FEW SCENES TODAY.
nats full- 2 seconds of rain
THIS WAS THE DAMP SCENE AT CENTRAL CITY PARK .
EXTRAS ARRIVED AROUND 7 A-M... AND SAY THEY DID A LOT OF HURRYING-UP AND WAITING.
THE FILM'S PUBLICIST SAID THEY SHOT AN INDOOR SCENE IN THE LOCKER ROOM AT LUTHER WILLIAM'S FIELD.
CROWD SCENES INSIDE THE STADIUM ARE EXPECTED TO BE SHOT TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
PREPARATIONS FOR FILMING ALSO TOOK MOVIE CREWS TO A HISTORIC DOWNTOWN MACON JEWELRY STORE.
((NATS: 2 sec))
A FILM CREW COVERED AN EXTERIOR AIR CONDITIONER FOR SCENES AT ANDERSEN'S JEWELERS LAST WEEK.
PRODUCERS CHOSE THE STORE FOR ITS GREEN AWNING SO CREWS CAN RUN OFF FAKE RAIN FOR A STORM SCENE.
STORE OWNER RICHARD RAYSON SAYS HE SHARES A NAME WITH A FAMOUS ACTOR WHO MIGHT SOON BE IN HIS SHOP.
"I thought that was kinda ironic, I go by my middle name, which is Richard, but my first name is Harrison. And Harrison Ford will possibly be here in the store later this week."
ANDERSEN'S JEWELERS WILL REMAIN OPEN AT ITS SECOND STREET LOCATION UNTIL MOVIE CREWS SHOW UP TO SHOOT THE SCENE.
LET US KEEP YOU UP TO DATE ON ALL THE "42" FILMING COVERAGE.
JUST GO TO 13WMAZ DOT COM AND LOOK FOR THE LINK IN THE CHECK IT OUT BOX ON OUR HOMEPAGE.

FOR 23 YEARS... VOLUNTEERS HAVE HELPED KEEP THE STATE'S HIGHWAYS CLEAN THROUGH THE ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY PROGRAM.
BUT NOW THAT THE KU KLUX KLAN WANTS A STRETCH OF ROAD NAMED FOR IT IN UNION COUNTY... THE WHOLE PROGRAM IS IN DANGER OF DISAPPEARING.
PAUL CRAWLEY WITH OUR SISTER STATION
W-X-I-A IN ATLANTA TAKES A LOOK.
As you can tell by its many community signs, the small mountain town of Blairsville is proud of its location at the bottom foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
Proud of its reputation as a tourist and retirement attraction.
But many are not proud to learn that the Ku Klux Klan wants a sign of its own put up on Highway 515 at the Union County line.
Like this one in Missouri, the Klan wants a sign showing it will take care of keeping a one mile stretch of highway clean and beautiful.
Some local Klan members have filed this Adopt-a-Highway application with Georgia's Department of Transportation.
We were set up to interview some of the Klan members who put in this permit for an adopt-a-highway sign at this park in Blairsville, but they cancelled on us, saying that their lawyer advised against it in case they end up in court.
They did say they'd do an interview if we paid money to the Klan, which, of course, we told them we don't do.
Even though those Klan members aren't talking, we found plenty of people in Blairsville who were surprised to hear of the Klan's application.
"The message is still that the KKK is still alive and active up here, which I would hope it's not. I don't know if it is for sure or not, but I don't like the message that it sends."
"I don't think there's anything they can do about it or anything they should do about it. I mean it's free speech, free country. If they want to do it, let 'em do it."
"It's not my choice to say if it's someone's right to have it or not, but technically if it were my choice, I would say 'no'."
The Klan's Adopt-a-Highway application puts the state in a bit of a pickle.
If they turn it down, the Klan is threatening to sue like they did over this similar sign in Missouri, which the courts upheld.
Another possibility is for the DOT to do away with the Adopt-a-Highway program which helps state and local governments save millions of dollars keeping our highways clean.
TOP OFFICIALS FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MET PRIVATELY WITH STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL SAM OLENS TODAY AND DISCUSSED WHAT TO DO ABOUT THE K-K-K'S ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY APPLICATION.
D-O-T SAYS THEY'RE STILL WORKING THROUGH THE REVIEW PROCESS.
TODAY'S 13WMAZ DOT COM WEB POLL ASKS... SHOULD THE KU KLUX KLAN BE ALLOWED TO "ADOPT" A GEORGIA HIGHWAY?
SO FAR 50 PERCENT OF YOU SAY YES.
AND 50 PERCENT SAY NO.

THE MACON MAYOR'S OFFICE WILL TAKE CHARGE OF A PROGRAM TO CURB YOUTH VIOLENCE AND GANG ACTIVITY.
AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BY COUNCIL MEMBER VIRGIL WATKINS TO GET OTHER MEMBERS ON BOARD... THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE DECIDED TO MAKE THE MAYOR'S OFFICE THE LEAD AGENCY.
THE ONLY VOTE AGAINST THE INITIATIVE CAME FROM COUNCILMAN HENRY GIBSON.
HE SAYS HANDING OVER RESPONSIBILITY TO THE CITY IS "A SLAP IN THE FACE TO THE MACON POLICE DEPARTMENT."
"when you think of gangs, you dont think of the mayors office, you think of the police department, and that's why we have 305 personnel down there is to handle whether it's gangs or bullets, whether it's guns or bullets, or strategy."
"they'll both be working together collaboratively, strongly if this initiative is to be successful. so, the who's initially in charge thing wasnt that big of an issue for me, but naturally, the police department does work for the mayors office."
THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE STILL HAS TO VOTE ON HIRING A CIVILIAN COORDINATOR FOR THE ANTI-GANG EFFORT.
WATKINS SAYS HE IS WORKING TO FIND TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS OUT OF NEXT YEARS BUDGET TO FUND THE PROGRAM.
THIS WEEKEND THE CITY OF PERRY UNVEILED THEIR NEW PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING FACILITY OFF OF TOOMER ROAD.
THE CENTER IS NAMED AFTER CHIEF GEORGE POTTER.

IT OFFERS A SIMULATED GUN RANGE... A RUNNING TRACK... AND A TWENTY FOOT DITCH TO HELP IMPROVE RESCUE TECHNIQUES FOR FIREFIGHTERS.
LIEUTENANT JAMES BUCK SAYS IT'S MORE THAN A TRAINING CENTER FOR PERRY.
James Buck, Lieutenant: "This is one of the most advanced ranges in middle georgia, officers from not only the Perry police department but the Houston County Sheriff's Department the Georgia Bureau of Investigations will all be training out here in order to improve their skills."
CHIEF GEORGE POTTER SAYS THE PROJECT IS ONGOING... AND THERE'S NO OFFICIAL DATE OF COMPLETION.
