HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.... I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
AND I'M FRANK MALLOY.
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX...

BIBB COUNTY FAMILIES COULD LOSE SOME PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IF THEIR CHILDREN ARE TRUANT...AND LOSE BENEFITS ALTOGETHER IF THEY DON'T WORK WITH SCHOOL OFFICIALS TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
BIBB SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT ROMAIN DALLEMAND PLANS TO USE THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CHILD SERVICES TO STEP UP PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT...AND REDUCE TRUANCY.
HE TOLD THE MACON ROTARY CLUB TODAY.... THAT SCHOOLS WILL TELL DFCS IF CHILDREN UNDER THE TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILES PROGRAM MISS CLASS TOO OFTEN.
UNDER A PLAN ANNOUNCED LAST SEPTEMBER....PARENTS CAN ALREADY LOSE A QUARTER OF THEIR BENEFITS IF THEIR CHILD IS RULED TRUANT.
BUT SO FAR...D-FACS SAYS NO ONE HAS LOST BENEFITS YET.
NOW THEY PLAN TO TAKE THAT FURTHER.
AFTER THE FIRST OFFENSE... SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND ADMINISTRATORS WOULD IDENTIFY THE REASONS BEHIND THE CHILD'S ABSENCE.
because there could be social problems, you know, there could be anything, i mean the child could be ill, it could be a lot of reasons, and like i said if there'sa valid reason then the child would not be sanctioned and that would be up for us to determine.
PARENTS OF TRUANTS WOULD ALSO ATTEND INFORMATION AND TRAINING SESSIONS.
AFTER THREE MONTHS... IF THE PARENTS ARE STILL NOT COOPERATING.... DFCS COULD CUT THE FAMILY FROM THE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.
and i think that once parents get on board with that regardless of how much education they have, i think once they get on board with that and see the importance of children going to school, i think it will be a good thing.
DALLEMAND SAYS ATTORNEYS STILL NEED TO WORK OUT CONFIDENTAILITY AND OTHER LEGAL ISSUES BUT HE EXPECTS THE NEW AGREEMENT WITH DFCS TO START NEXT FALL.

WE ALSO ASKED THE SUPERINTENDENT ABOUT HIS RECENT TRIP TO BELGIUM.. AND HIS DECISION TO PAY FOR THE TRIP OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET..
SOME SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND OTHERS CRITICIZED HIS TRIP TO THE WORLD APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY CONFERENCE.. WHERE HE TALKED ABOUT DRAWING UP HIS MACON MIRACLE PLAN.
THE ESTIMATED COST.... ABOUT 3 THOUSAND DOLLARS.
DALLEMAND SAID HE ALWAYS INTENDED TO PAY FOR THE TRIP HIMSELF.
WHEN KATELYN HECK ASKED WHY HE DIDN'T SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE.. DALLEMAND OFFERED SOME ADVICE..
>> Romain Dallemand, Bibb Superintendent: "Let's talk about improving this community for the sake, for the sake of our own future and our own survival. That is what I'm here to talk about. I don't want to talk about these things that are completely irrelevant and trivial, to be honest. So my advice to you as journalists would be to talk about issues that really have substance - issues that truly matter, issues that really make a difference in this community. ok? Thank you. Talk to you later. Talk to you later (walks away).<< YOU'LL GET THE CHANCE SHARE YOUR CONCERNS ON SAFETY AT BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS LATER THIS WEEK. THE TWO FORUMS ARE SCHEDULED FOR:
THURSDAY... MAY 17... FROM 6-8 P.M. AT MILLER MAGNET MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND FRIDAY... MAY 18... FROM 6-8 P.M. AT CARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
YOU'LL BE ASKED TO COMPLETE A SURVEY AT THE FORUMS.. AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SPEAK DURING THE PRESENTATION.

A HOUSTON COUNTY JUDGE, NOT A JURY.... WILL HAND DOWN THE VERDICT IN THE TIRAL OF A MAN ACCUSED OF STARVING HIS 2-YEAR-OLD SON TO DEATH.
WILLIAM THOMAS DAVIS THE THIRD IS ACCUSED OF MURDER AND CRUELTY TO CHILDREN..
HIS SON WAS FOUND IN 2010 AT THEIR HOME ON TIFFANY PLACE.
THE TWO YEAR OLD WEIGHED A LITTLE OVER TWELVE POUNDS WHEN HE DIED.
TODAY.... DAVIS WAIVED HIS RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL.
SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE KATHERINE LUMSDEN WILL HEAR THE CASE... AND DECIDE HIS FATE.
EARLIER THIS MONTH... THE BOY'S MOTHER... SADE SHAMON KING RECEIVED A LIFE SENTENCE WITH THE POSSIBLITY OF PAROLE AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO THE SAME CHARGES.
PROSECUTORS SAY SHE'LL TESTIFY AGAINST DAVIS.
>> Frank Malloy, Eyewitness News: A NEW PROGRAM TO PROTECT YOUR IDENTITY.. MAKES GETTING A GEORGIA LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION MORE COMPLICATED.
GOVERNOR NATHAN DEAL AND THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF DRIVER SERVICES.. OR D-D-S.. ANNOUNCED THE SECURE I-D PROGRAM THIS MONTH.
BEGINNING JULY FIRST.. THE PROCESS TO RENEW OR RE-INSTATE YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE OR I-D CARD.. REQUIRES MORE DOCUMENTATION..
