GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US... I'M AMY AUBERT.
THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.

IT'S NOT OFTEN WE GET TO TALK ABOUT THE PAIN AT THE PUMP EASING... ESPECIALLY NOT AS WE HEAD INTO SUMMER... BUT THE LAST FEW WEEKS HAVE BUCKED THE TREND.
ACCORDING TO TRIPLE-A ...THE AVERAGE GAS PRICE IN MACON IS 3 DOLLARS AND 37 CENTS A GALLON FOR REGULAR UNLEADED.
... THAT'S ABOUT A DIME LESS THAN LAST WEEK...
42 CENTS LESS THAN LAST MONTH...
AND FIFTY CENTS LESS THAN A YEAR AGO.
AS CANDACE ADORKA SHOWS YOU... MANY CENTRAL GEORGIANS RELISH THE FALLING TREND.
<<
"I was low on gas and this is relatively close to where I live so I stoped here to get the gas, I mean it seemed to be a great price so i stopped."
"But I actually decided to buy premium because its a cheaper down here than where I'm at. When we left South Georgia it was 3.69 a gallon down there right now."
"They've been going down, they have and I think that's great I just hope it stays down for the summer."
"No it's gonna back up. and it's gonna come back down."
"Uh yeah I'll be tempted to go out and go eat somewhere. Go to a movie or, take a trip up here."
"Today its down, tomorrow it may back up. Prices are so volatile. Maybe we've got a chance, you know if it just holds that'd help the economy a great deal if it holds at a low price like this."
>>
MACON STATE ECONOMIST GREG GEORGE SAYS THE LOWER PRICES ARE DUE TO THE STRENGTHENING OF THE DOLLAR... WHICH... IN RETURN... IS LOWERING THE COST OF OIL.
HE SAYS THE DROPPING GAS PRICES COULD ALSO AFFECT OTHER PARTS OF THE ECONOMY.
"Whenever we see an easing at the gas pumps it helps out people with their personal budgets. usually we look for national prices getting below $3.50 a gallon. Once we cross the threshold, things get really good really fast, so hopefull it'll keep going down from there."
HE SAYS THE TREND COULD CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.
"The main thing is as the summer travel season picks up, we'll see how that goes. Luckily actually OPEC has responded the crsis in the middle east with an increase in production so the supply of oil on the global markets is pretty high right now so hopefully that'll keep things in check throughout the summer. but you never know depending on how supply and demand worked out we might see a bit of increase later on in the summer."
THE HIGHEST AVERAGE FUEL PRICE EVER RECORDED IN MACON... IS 4 DOLLARS AND 29 CENTS.
THAT WAS BACK IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 ACCORDING TO TRIPPLE-A.

A 67-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIED IN A HOUSE FIRE IN EASTMAN... EARLY THIS MORNING.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO DODGE COUNTY CORONER... JOE SMITH.
IT HAPPENED ON BACON AVENUE.
HE SAYS 67-YEAR-OLD JOYCE PAUL WAS TAKEN TO THE DODGE COUNTY HOSPITAL... WHERE SHE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD.
SMITH SAYS PAUL'S SON... GREG PURVIS... CALLED IN THE FIRE AROUND 12-30 A-M.
HE SAYS PURVIS WOKE UP FROM THE FLAMES... AND TRIED TO BREAK INTO HIS MOTHER'S BEDROOM WINDOW... WHERE SHE WAS AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE.
HE SAYS FIRE CREWS FOUGHT THE BLAZE FROM 12-30... TO AROUND 3-15 A-M.
THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

CITY OF MACON AND BIBB COUNTY GOVERNMENTS TALKED BUDGETS THIS PAST WEEK... AND FOR THE MOST PART... LOCAL LEADERS ARE PAINTING A ROSY PICTURE FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR.
MACON MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT'S PROPOSED 20-13 BUDGET INCLUDES SPENDING CUTS... AND A TAX BREAK FOR HOMEOWNERS.
BUDGET DOCUMENTS SHOW HE'S ASKING COUNCIL TO REDUCE SPENDING FROM THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND
FROM 74 MILLION DOLLARS... TO 70 MILLION.
THAT'S A CUT OF MORE THAN 5 AND A HALF PERCENT.
IT'S PARTLY DUE TO FIVE DEPARTMENTS MOVING TO THE BIBB COUNTY BUDGET STARTING JULY FIRST.
REICHERT IS ALSO ASKING FOR A CUT IN THE MILLAGE RATE... OF A TENTH OF A POINT.
THAT WOULD SAVE THE AVERAGE HOMEOWNER... 4 DOLLARS.
BUT ACCORDING TO COUNTY COMMISSIONER ELMO RICHARDSON... BIBB COUNTY IS A LITTLE MORE THAN 13 MILLION DOLLARS IN THE HOLE FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR.
THAT'S PARTLY DUE TO THE CITY... COUNTY TRANSFER.
RICHARDSON SAYS THEY PLAN TO FOCUS ON 2 POINT-8 MILLION DOLLARS FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS.
THE COUNTY PLANS TO FINANCE MOST OF THAT COST... AND SPREAD IT OUT OVER A FEW YEARS.
RICHARDSON ALSO POINTED OUT... TAKING ON FIVE DEPARTMENTS AND ALMOST 100 EMPLOYEES FROM THE CITY... WILL TAKE SOME EXTRA BUDGETING WORK.
HE SAYS BIBB COUNTY'S GENERAL FUND IS PROJECTED TO ROLL IN AT 80 MILLION DOLLARS.
COUNTY LEADERS WILL IRON OUT THE DETAILS FOR NEXT YEAR DURING FOUR DAYS OF BUDGET HEARINGS STARTING MAY 21ST.
THE CITY STARTED LOOKING AT SPECIFIC LINE ITEMS... LAST WEDNESDAY.

TOMORROW MACON MAYOR ROBERT REICHERT WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS AND HEAR CONCERNS ABOUT THE CITY FROM PEOPLE IN MACON.
HE'LL HOST MAYOR'S NIGHT IN... AT CITY HALL....
IT'S SET TO START AT 5-30 P-M.
IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE MAYOR... YOU CAN SCHEDULE A TIME TO SPEAK BY CALLING 478-751-7570... AGAIN THAT'S 478-751-7570.

The Wall Street Journal reports three executives at JPMorgan Chase will resign in the wake of a two billion dollar trading loss.
Including the chief investment officer.
The shake-up follows an apology from the man who runs the nation's largest bank.

(SOT Jamie Dimon/JPMorgan Chase CEO - NBC ) "WE MADE A TERRIBLE, EGREGIOUS MISTAKE AND THERE'S ALMOST NO EXCUSE FOR IT."

A UK based trader for JP Morgan Chase nicknamed the "London Whale" managed the investments.

(:24-:29)(SOT Jamie Dimon/JPMorgan Chase CEO NBC 09:05:15) " THE STRATEGY THAT WE HAD WAS BARELY VETTED, IT WAS BADLY MONITORED, IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED."

C-E-O Jaime Dimon says - last month - he was wrong to ignore warning signs.
But, he says the bank is not in danger of failing.

(SOT Jamie Dimon/JPMorgan Chase CEO - NBC) "WE ARE STILL GOING TO EARN A LOT OF MONEY THIS QUARTER. SO IT ISN'T LIKE THE COMPANY IS JEOPARDIZED. WE HURT OURSELVES AND OUR CREDIBILITY YES. AND THAT WE HAVE TO FULLY EXPECT AND PAY THE PRICE FOR THAT."

(:47-:54) (STANDUP DUARTE GERALDINO/NYC) That's already happening - the price of J-P Morgan Chase's stock dropped almost ten percent on Friday. And, The Securities and Exchange Commission has launched an investigation.

More than three years after the financial crisis some lawmakers say the banking industry is still taking on too much risk.
A former Wall Street regulator agrees.

(1:06-1:15)(SOT MICHAEL GREENBERGER/FORMER WALL STREET REGULATOR) "JPMORGAN CHASE AND JAMIE DIMON ARE THE BRIGHTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM. IF THEY HAVE THIS PROBLEM GOD KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THESE PROBLEMS AND THIS COULD LEAD US RIGHT BACK TO WHERE WE WERE IN 2008."
