GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M LEAH JOHNSON...
FRANK MALLOY HAS THE NIGHT OFF.

FORMER WARNER ROBINS CITY COUNCILMAN JOHN WILLAMS WILL BE IN COURT NEXT WEEK.... DESPITE A MOTION FILED BY HIS LAWYERS TO DELAY THE TRIAL... CITING WILLIAMS' HEALTH.
JUDGE MARC TREADWELL DENIED THE MOTION AFTER HEARING TESTIMONY FROM WILLIAMS' DOCTOR.....

WHO SAID HE TREATED WILLIAMS FOR ACUTE RENAL FAILURE AND PANCREATIC PROBLEMS DURING A WEEKEND HOSPITAL STAY.
HIS DOCTOR TOLD THE COURT THAT WILLIAMS NEEDED TWO WEEKS OF REST BEFORE HIS TRIAL.

THE DOCTOR ALSO TESTIFIED THAT WILLIAMS IS ON MEDICATION FOR SEVERAL CONDITIONS... INCLUDING A DRUG FOR DEMENTIA.

THE DOCTOR ALSO SAID WILLIAMS TOLD HIM THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO "END UP LIKE THE EX-MAYOR"... APPARENTLY MEANING DONALD WALKER WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE IN 2009.
HE DID'T EXPLAIN FURTHER.
TREADWELL SAID JURY SELECTION FOR THE CONSPIRACY TRIAL WILL BEGIN MONDAY.. BUT THAT HE MIGHT DELAY HEARING EVIDENCE FOR A WEEK AFTER SEEING HOW WILLIAMS IS DOING.
WILLIAMS IS ACCUSED OF MAKING MONEY OFF THE PURCHASE OF A CITY TRUCK... LYING TO FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS ABOUT IT... AND TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS.

BIBB COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT ROMAIN DALLEMAND HAD LESS THAN A THOUSAND DOLLARS LEFT FOR TRAVEL AS OF FEBRUARY......
AND HIS TRIP TO BELGIUM WITH TWO OTHER SCHOOL OFFICIALS NEXT WEEK WILL SEND HIM OVER HIS BUDGET.

DALLEMAND STARTED WITH TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS SET ASIDE FOR TRAVEL... THAT'S OUT OF THE 296 MILLION DOLLAR SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET.

HE USED OVER 90 PERCENT OF THAT ALLOWANCE BEFORE MARCH.

AIR FARE... LODGING... AND REGISTRATION FOR THE WORLD APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY CONFERENCE IN BELGIUM WILL COST THE DISTRICT THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS PER PERSON... TOTALING 9 THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP.

SUSANNE GRIFFIN-ZIEBART... DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT AND DESIGN HAS ALREADY SPENT OVER HER TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR BUDGET.
DALLEMAND AND GRIFFIN-ZIEBART... ALONG WITH THE DIRECTOR OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.... JUDY GODFREY... WILL PRESENT THEIR EXPERIENCE USING THE APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY METHOD AT THE CONFERENCE.

"That's Bibb County Schools' story, that's not ours. The world conference is about, 'tell us about the inquiry, what were the opportunities, and how did you do that?"

KATHY BECKER WITH THE CENTER FOR APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY SAYS... THE CONFERENCE ASKED THE GROUP TO APPEAR IN BELGIUM.

DISTRICT TRAVEL RECORDS SAY DALLEMAND HAS ALREADY SPENT AT LEAST 40 DAYS ON THE ROAD SINCE LAST JUNE.
HE'S BEEN TO NEW YORK.... DETROIT... DENVER... VANCOUVER...AND SEVERAL OTHER CITIES.

WE TRIED TO GET MORE RECENT NUMBERS ON THE DISTRICT'S TRAVEL SPENDING.
SCHOOL DISTRICT CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER.... RONNIE COLLIER DID NOT RETURN OUR PHONE CALLS.

BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS COULD GO TO A YEAR ROUND CALENDAR IN 2013.
IT'S PART OF DALLEMAND'S MACON MIRACLE STRATEGIC PLAN.
MATT CARDOZA WITH THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SAYS... SCHOOLS THAT DON'T FOLLOW THE TRADITIONAL AUGUST TO MAY OR SEPTEMBER TO JUNE TIME FRAME ARE CONSIDERED "ALTERNATIVE OR YEAR-ROUND" SCHOOLS... AND HE SAYS THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS WHY DISTRICT CHOOSE THIS METHOD.

Matt Cardoza, Georgia Department of Education: "If you're going in a more year-round time frame, then the idea behind that usually is that student knowledge is not lost as easily because of a long break in between. You've got another variety of factors going on with students who, you know, it sometimes can even be a discipline issue. The less time students are away from school, the better student discipline is. So there are a variety of factors."
CARDOZA SAYS SIX SCHOOL SYSTEMS IN GEORGIA REPORTED THAT SOME OR ALL OF THEIR SCHOOLS USE A YEAR-ROUND CALENDAR.
THAT INCLUDES DOOLY COUNTY IN CENTRAL GEORGIA.

CAMPUS POLICE SAY THEY FOUND A GUN INSIDE A CAR ON SCHOOL PROPERTY THIS MORNING... MAKING IT AT LEAST THE NINTH GUN INCIDENT AT BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
IT HAPPENED NEAR THE SCHOOL'S PARKING LOT THIS MORNING..
CAMPUS POLICE AND FACULTY WERE PATROLLING WHEN THEY NOTICED A CAR WITH FOUR STUDENTS TRYING TO LEAVE.
THE SCHOOL SAYS WHEN CAMPUS POLICE ASKED THE STUDENTS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR.. ONLY THREE RESPONDED.
David Gowan, Dir. of Risk Management Bibb County Schools: The student driver did refuse the verbal request to exit the vehicle, he was subsequently attempted to be placed under arrest by the campus police officer and there was some resistance to being handcuffed, but he was placed under arrest quickly.

AFTER THE DRIVER GOT OUT.... POLICE SEARCHED THE CAR AND FOUND THE GUN IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT.
DAVID GOWAN DIRECTOR OF RISK MANAGEMENT FOR BIBB COUNTY SCHOOLS SAYS... HE CAN'T COMMENT ON THE TYPE OF HANDGUN OR WHETHER IT WAS LOADED.
THE STUDENT WAS TAKEN TO BIBB COUNTY JAIL.

ACCORDING TO THE JAIL WEBSITE.... 19-YEAR-OLD DEVONTE LYNN YOUNG WAS CHARGED TODAY WITH OBSTRUCTION AND POSSESSION OF A GUN ON SCHOOL PROPERTY.
GOWAN WOULDN'T CONFIRM IF YOUNG IS THE RUTLAND SUSPECT.
