HELLO EVERYONE AND THANKS FOR JOINING US.... I'M LEAH JOHNSON..
AND I'M FRANK MALLOY.
THIS IS A SPECIAL EDITION EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX DESIGNED TO HELP YOU GET INFORMED AHEAD OF TOMORROW'S SUPER TUESDAY PRIMARY CONTESTS.

TOMORROW... GEORGIA WILL JOIN NINE OTHER STATES HOLDING PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES OR CAUCUSES.
THE GROUP INCLUDES PRIMARIES IN MASSACHUSETTS... OHIO... OKLAHOMA... TENNESSEE... VERMONT AND VIRGINIA.
REPUBLICANS IN THREE STATES.... ALASKA... IDAHO AND NORTH DAKOTA... WILL CAUCUS TOMORROW.
AND PEOPLE IN SEVERAL CENTRAL GEORGIA COUNTIES WILL CAST THEIR VOTE FOR OR AGAINST BALLOT QUESTIONS LIKE SPLOSTS.

FIRST... LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THE DELEGATE COUNT HEADING INTO THE SUPER TUESDAY CONTESTS.
LEADING THE PACK RIGHT NOW IS FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY WITH 203 DELEGATES.
FORMER U-S SENATOR RICK SANTORUM IS SECOND WITH 92 DELEGATES... FOLLOWED BY FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER NEWT GINGRICH WITH 33.
CONGRESSMAN RON PAUL IS IN FOURTH PLACE RIGHT NOW... WITH 25 DELEGATES.
A CANDIDATE NEEDS ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED AND 44 DELEGATES TO SECURE THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT.
419 DELEGATES ARE AT STAKE TOMORROW.
THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION WILL BE HELD IN TAMPA FLORIDA AUGUST 27TH THROUGH THE 30TH.
THEIR NOMINEE WILL FACE PRESIDENT OBAMA IN NOVEMBER.

SO WHAT'S AT STAKE FOR GEORGIA TOMORROW... AND HOW COULD THE OUTCOME AFFECT THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE?
POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR CLIF WILKINSON FROM GEORGIA COLLEGE AND STATE UNIVERSITY JOINS LORRA LYNCH JONES FOR SOME PERSPECTIVE.
LORRA?

- Georgia has 76 delegate votes up for grabs. Explain what that means.

- Each state awards it's delegates differently. Georgia uses what's called a proportional system. How does that work?

- Polls show Gingrich with a lead, but a win doesn't mean he gets all the delegates from Georgia. Polls are showing that Romney is likely to pick-up some, as well as Santorum. Is a Gingrich win of the some the votes in Georgia enough to keep him in the race?

- Will Super Tuesday provide some clarity to the GOP nomination?

- Will a frontrunner emerge? If not, when?

- How much of an effort have candidates besides Gingrich made in Georgia, knowing it's his home state?

WE ASKED ON OUR FACEBOOK FANS WHY YOU PLAN TO SUPPORT A PARTICULAR CANDIDATE ON SUPER TUESDAY.
EDWARD MORLEY ADAMS SENIOR WROTE... "NEWT 2012. NEWT HAS STATED THAT WITH-IN HOURS OF HIS TAKING THE OATH OF OFFICE FOR POTUS... SHORT FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES... HE WILL BE BUSY DISMANTLING OBAMA'S DESTRUCTIVE POLICIES AND TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!!
CLINT BURGAMY ANSWERED... I'M VOTING FOR RON PAUL BECAUSE OF HIS HONESTY AND CONSISTENCY. HIS KNOWLEDGE OF HOW ECONOMIES SHOULD BE RUN... AND HIS IDEA THAT A WEAK ECONOMY IS THE GREATEST THREAT TO NATIONAL DEFENSE.
ERIC BAKER SAID... "I WILL BE VOTING FOR RICK SANTORUM DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE HAS CONTINUED TO STICK WITH HIS PLAN FOR THIS GREAT NATION AND NOT LETTING THE MEDIA OR ANY OF THE OTHER CANDIDATES ALTER HIS VISION FOR WHAT...
HE BELIEVES IS BEST FOR OUR COUNTRY. MY LIST OF REASONS COULD GO ON AND ON."
GENA RAE JENNINGS SAUL WROTE... IF WE COULD JUST SQUEEZE THEM INTO ONE PERSON, WE WOULD HAVE ONE HECK OF A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE!
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH US ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE.
WE'LL WILL BE SHOWING YOU MORE OF THOSE COMMENTS THROUGHOUT THIS NEWSCAST.

>>LEAH: REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES SPENT THE LAST FEW DAYS VISITING SOME OF THE STATES HOLDING PRIMARIES AND CAUCUSES ON SUPER TUESDAY..
GEORGIA HAS THE MOST DELEGATES OF THE TEN STATES HOLDING CONTESTS TOMORROW.. AND PROJECTIONS SHOW NEWT GINGRICH IS LIKELY TO WIN HIS HOME STATE..
Newt Gingrich (R)
Presidential Candidate
" it's very hard for one of the major candidates to not carry their home state and continue to move forward. So we felt it was very important, we feel very good about it,
LEAH: THE FORMER SPEAKER SPENT TODAY IN TENNESSEE.. WHILE HIS CAMPAIGN BUS TOUR HIT SPOTS IN OKLAHOMA..
FRANK: POLITICAL ANALYSTS SAY.. GINGRICH AND RICK SANTORUM WILL BE SPLITTING THE ANTI-ROMNEY VOTERS IN MANY STATES TOMORROW.. INCLUDING GEORGIA..
SANTORUM WAS FOCUSED ON FORMER MASSACHUSSETSS GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY TODAY..
HE SAYS.. WHILE ROMNEY HAS MORE CAMPAIGN MONEY THAN ANYBODY ELSE.. IT'S ACTUALLY INSPIRATION THAT WILL WIN THE NOMINATION..
Rick Santorum
(R) Presidential Candidate
--SOT --
" Give credit to Governor Romney and what he has been able to put together - amass an enormous amount of money. But this race isn't going to be won or lost in the fall on money. This race is going to be won or lost on someone who can capture the imagination of the American people, someone who can go out and articulate that vision for where our country must go if we are going to be free and safe and prosperous."
LEAH: FORMER MASSACHUSSETTS GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY ALSO SPENT TIME IN OHIO TODAY..
HE FOCUSED ON THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH VOTERS - THE ECONOMY - AND EXPLAINED WHY HE FEELS HE IS BETTER-PREPARED TO HANDLE THE CHALLENGES..
Mitt Romney
(R) Presidential Candidate
--SOT -
What I know is the economy. I spent my life in the real economy. I understand why jobs come and why they go. Other people in this race have debated about the economy. They have read about the economy. They have talked about it in subcommittee meetings but I have actually been in it.
FRANK: ROMNEY.. SANTORUM.. AND GINGRICH ALL MADE CAMPAIGN VISITS TO GEORGIA IN THE PAST FEW DAYS..
G-O-P CANDIDATE RON PAUL SPENT TODAY IN IDAHO.. WHERE XX DELEGATES ARE UP FOR GRABS IN TOMORROW'S PRIMARY.
PAUL SPENT SUNDAY IN ALASKA.. WHERE HE TOO FOCUSED ON OUR COUNTRY'S ECONOMIC TROUBLES..
Ron Paul
(R) Presidential Candidate
SOT Paul:"If any of us got into financial trouble as an individual or as a business and we couldn't borrow any money or we deeply in debt and everything we earned went into financing the debt we would have to do something. We would have to cut back, we would have to work harder, we would have to get rid of the debt and we would have economic growth again.
LEAH: PRESIDENT OBAMA WAS NOT CAMPAIGNING TODAY.. INSTEAD HE FOCUSED ON FOREIGN POLICY.. SPECIFICALLY.. THE MIDDLE EAST..
Washington
PRESIDENT OBAMA MET WITH ISRAELI PRESIDENT BENJAMIN NETANYAHU AT THE WHITE HOUSE TODAY.. TO DISCUSS THEIR STRATEGY FOR DEALING WITH IRAN..
DESPITE DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS AND SANCTIONS.. IRAN CONTINUES TO MOVE FORWARD WITH DEVELOPING THE CAPABILITY TO BUILD NUCLEAR WEAPONS..
BOTH OBAMA AND NETANYAHU VOICED THEIR SUPPORT FOR EACH OTHER..
IRAN'S LEADERS SAY.. THEY ARE USING NUCLEAR ENERGY FOR CIVILIAN PURPOSES ONLY.
FRANK: THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ISN'T THE ONLY ISSUE ON THE BALLOT FOR SOME CENTRAL GEORGIA VOTERS TOMORROW.
DOOLY COUNTY VOTERS WILL CONSIDER A 10-POINT-EIGHT MILLION DOLLAR SPLOST FOR COURTHOUSE RENOVATION AND OTHER PROJECTS.
IN HOUSTON COUNTY... VOTERS WILL HAVE A SPLOST EXTENSION BEFORE THEM... TO PAY FOR CITY AND COUNTY PROJECTS.
IN MACON COUNTY... THERE'S A SALES TAX EXTENSION ON THE BALLOT... THAT WOULD PAY FOR SCHOOL PROJECTS.
MONROE COUNTY VOTERS ALSO HAVE A SPLOST ON THE BALLOT... FOR CITY AND COUNTY UPGRADES.
THE PEACH COUNTY SPLOST WOULD PAY FOR PROJECTS INCLUDING ROAD AND BRIDGE PROJECTS.
TREUTLEN COUNTY'S SCHOOL BOARD WANTS VOTERS TO APPROVE A SPLOST TO PAY OFF DEBTS.
THERE ARE ALSO A COUPLE OF SUNDAY LIQUOR SALES VOTES IN CENTRAL GEORGIA.

JEFFERSONVILLE AND PUTNAM COUNTY WILL BOTH DECIDE WHETHER TO APPROVE THOSE MEASURES.
AND FOR VOTERS IN JONES COUNTY'S RIVER NORTH COMMUNITY... THERE'S A SPECIAL BALLOT QUESTION FOR BONDS TO PAY FOR WATER AND SEWER IMRPOVEMENTS.
OF COURSE VOTERS STATEWIDE CAN VOTE ON GEORGIA'S REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY... WHICH INCLUDES GINGRICH... PAUL... ROMNEY... SANTORUM AND SEVERAL OTHER CANDIDATES.
AND IF YOU WANT TO CAST A VOTE FOR PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA... YOU CAN ASK FOR A DEMOCRATIC BALLOT... BUT THE PRESIDENT'A NAME IS THE ONLY ONE ON THAT BALLOT.
SOME OF THE CANDIDATES ARE GATHERING STEAM ONLINE AS WELL.
LORRA AND CLIF WILL RUN DOWN HOW SOCIAL MEDIA IS SHAPING THE CAMPAIGN... WHEN EYEWITNESS NEWS AT SIX CONTINUES.<<

FROM FACEBOOK TO TWITTER TO EVEN A FEW ITEMS ON PINTEREST... THE SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD IS BECOMING A BATTLEGROUND FOR THE 2012 ELECTION.
LET'S REJOIN LORRA AND CLIF TO BREAK DOWN THE CYBERCHATTER.

- When did social media become such a focal point for campaigning?

- How do candidates use it as an effective strategy for turning tweets or posts into votes?
- share beliefs to connect and convince undecided
- show people what goes on behind the scenes.
- call for action (organize followers in local areas to volunteer)
- upload volunteers in action to show appreciation

- What are the drawbacks of social media, such as tweets?

- Obama had success with it in 2008. How are the GOP candidates using it?

- Who are they trying to reach?

- What are we likely to see as the race moves forward from social media? Will it be at the core of campaign, as opposed to just party of the strategy as it was in 2008?
