<<
****nats off top of Joe Allen:Don't fight me, what you are doing is fighting me ***
THINGS GOT HEATED AT A RALLY AND MARCH FOR CITY EMPLOYEES BEING TRANSFERRED... WHEN BIBB COUNTY COMMISSIONER JOE ALLEN STOPPED BY.
****nats:I came down here to try to, I told, you if you agree to a meeting with the union, then you have done the right thing.***
COMMISSIONER ALLEN ALSO SERVES AS CHAIRMAN OF HUMAN RESOURCES FOR THE COUNTY... HE SAYS HE FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO BE THERE.
Commissioner Joe Allen, Bibb County: 2:01 How bad would it have looked if nobody would have been here from the county? My job is to be here.
Commissioner Joe Allen, Bibb County: 01:36 I think what they really wanted was for someone to listen and we're going to listen.
****nats of march: we are the union chant****
ABOUT 30 PEOPLE MARCHED THROUGH DOWNTOWN MACON LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ABOUT THE 140 CITY WORKERS BEING TRANSFERRED TO THE COUNTY.
THEY SAY WORKERS WILL LOSE THEIR SENORITY... PAY AND BENEFITS...
Darrell Byrd, City Employee:01:48 At this point in my life I don't want to start over. I'm getting older and it's not fair.
A MAJOR STICKING POINT FOR THESE FOLKS IS THE 6 MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD.
Darrell Byrd, City Employee: 01:03 The main concern is why do we have to be put back on probation, we've been here 8, 10, 19 years why go back on probation.
Councilman Lonnie Miley, Macon: 02:20 They should not be treated as they are new employees or put on probation or having to go through a bunch of hoops. I consider them political victims., they didn't wake up one morning and say I don't want to work for the city anymore I want to work for the county.
****nats 05:11 Yall have got to give us the opportunity to work with yall, for yall to help yall get this done***
A HEATED DISCUSSION... LEFT SOME CITY WORKERS FEELING LIKE COUNTY LEADERS... ARE LISTENING TO THEIR CONCERNS.
