OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT... A FEDERAL GRAND JURY HAS INDICTED THE WILCOX COUNTY SHERIFF AND THREE OTHER MEN FOR ALLEGEDLY ABUSING INMATES AND LYING TO FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS ABOUT IT.
THAT'S ACCORDING TO THE INDICTMENT FROM THE U-S DISTRICT COURT OF MIDDLE GEORGIA.
IT STATES SHERIFF STACY BLOODSWORTH, HIS SON,AUSTIN AND INMATE WILLIE CARUTHERS ARE ACCUSED OF BEATING AN INMATE -- IDENTIFIED ONLY AS K.H. -- IN JULY 2009.
THE INDICTMENT SAYS THE THREE "KICKED AND PUNCHED K-H REPEATEDLY AND HIT HIM WITH AN OBJECT....RESULTING IN BODILY INJURIES...INCLUDING A BROKEN JAW.
THEN THOSE THREE MEN....AND JAIL GUARD CASEY OWENS...CONSPIRED TO COVER UP THE BEATING....THE INDICTMENT SAYS.
THEY SAID CARUTHERS ACTED ALONE AND IN SELF-DEFENSE,...AND THEY ORDERED OTHERS TO BACK THEM UP.
THE INDICTMENT SAYS SHERIFF BLOODWORTH ...."ORDERED K-H TO WRITE A FALSE REPORT.....AND THREATENED TO HURT K-H AND HIS FAMILY MEMBER IF K-H TOLD ANYONE.
ALSO....THE SHERIFF....THREATENED K-H WITH BODILY HARM IF K-H DID NOT AGREE TO DROP A LAWSUIT.
THE INDICTMENT SAYS SHERIFF BLOODSWORTH ALSO HELPED TO BEAT TWO OTHER INMATES... MADE FALSE STATEMENTS ABOUT THOSE CASES... AND ORDERED OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.
ALL FOUR MEN ARE ALSO ACCUSED OF MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS TO FBI AGENTS INVESTIGATING THE CASE... AND VIOLATING THE INMATES CIVIL RIGHTS.
NO TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET.
TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED... WE TRIED TO REACH SHERIFF BLOODSWORTH LATE THIS AFTERNOON. HIS OFFICE SAID HE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE FIRM WILL OVERSEE CONSTRUCTION TO MAKE SURE ITS DONE CORRECTLY... AND MATCHES THE ARCHITECT'S DESIGN.

A FEW ARTISTS IN PERRY ARE USING A NEW TYPE OF CANVAS FOR THEIR WORK... MANHOLE LIDS
ITS PART OF A PROGRAM CALLED "LIDS FOR ARTISTS."
ANYONE... FROM BEGINNERS TO PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS... CAN SUBMIT A DESIGN TO CITY COUNCIL... AND MAKE THEIR MARK ON THE CITY.
MAYOR JIMMY FAIRCLOTH SAYS THE IDEA CAME FROM AN ARTICLE ABOUT A SIMILAR PROGRAM IN JAPAN.
HE SAYS HE EVENTUALLY WANTS ARTISTS TO DECORATE EVERY MANHOLE LID IN PERRY.
I think that would be pretty cool. I don't know if we will have that many artists that wish to do that but, it would be interesting. And that would be a tourist attraction ot walk through town, or any neighborhood for that matter, and look at the drawings depicted on the manhole covers.
