BUT THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT CAME IN THE FORM OF TRIBUTES.

THE MOST MOVING TRIBUTE CAME... WHEN JENNIFER HUDSON TOOK THE STAGE TO HONOR POP SINGER WHITNEY HOUSTON.

nats "And I will always love you)

THE GRAMMYS PROVED THEY WILL ALWAYS LOVE WHITNEY HOUSTON

(more nats will always)

JENNIFER HUDSON TOOK THE STAGE TO REMEMBER THE 6-time GRAMMY WINNER.

THE 48 YEAR OLD MUSIC LEGEND WAS FOUND IN THE BATHTUB OF HER BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL ROOM ON SATURDAY. SHE WAS IN TOWN TO ATTEND PRE- GRAMMY WEEKEND FESTIVITIES. HOST LL COOL J KICKED OFF THE SHOW WITH A PRAYER

( nats LL Cool J ) Dear heavenly father thank you for sharing our sister Whitney with us.

STEVIE WONDER WAS ONE OF THE ARTISTS WHO ACKNOWLEDGED THE LOSS.

(9:31:30 we love you Whitney)

(standup Bigad Shaban/CBS News/Los Angeles)

the shocking death of one of the world's greatest voices couldn't help but impact the mood at music's biggest night.

(Sot Ice T /Rapper/Actor )

To have that happen to Whitney is tragic. the only word I can use is tragedy. especially on the dawn of this. it's just wrong.

(SOT Kimberly Perry/The Band Perry)

such a great soul and we lost her too early.

HOUSTON'S SOARING VOCALS MADE HER THE QUEEN OF THE POP CHARTS IN THE 80'S AND 90'S, UNTIL DRUGS SIDELINED HER CAREER. THE LA COUNTY CORONER'S OFFICE. SAYS DETERMINING A CAUSE OF DEATH COULD TAKE WEEKS, BUT FOUL PLAY IS NOT SUSPECTED.

(sot Ed Winter/LA Assistant Chief Coroner)

I know there are reports did she drown, did she overdose? we won't be able to make a determination until all the tests are in.

AND HOUSTON'S DEATH IS TAKING A TOLL ON HER FAMILY. HER ONLY CHILD, BOBBI KRISTINA WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. A FAMILY FRIEND SAID THE 18 YEAR OLD WAS TREATED FOR STRESS AND ANXIETY BEFORE BEING RELEASED.
>>
OFFICIALS SAY THEY WILL NOT RELEASE ANY INFORMATION ON WHITNEY HOUSTON'S AUTOPSY AT THE REQUEST OF POLICE DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING THE SINGER'S DEATH.

SUPERINTENDENT ROMAIN DALLEMAND CELEBRATED THE COMPLETION OF HIS STRATEGIC PLAN FOR BIBB SCHOOLS ON FRIDAY.
THE PLAN MOSTLY FOCUSES ON IMPROVING LEARNING AND INSTRUCTION... BUT IT ALSO OFFERS SUPPORT SERVICES OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.
FOR EXAMPLE... IT FEATURES SCHOOL-BASED CLINICS... ADULT EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY... PARENTING CLASSES... INTERNET AND COMPUTER ACCESS... AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS AND AGENCIES.
OUR CANDACE ADORKA SPOKE TO MERCER PROFESSOR PETER BROWN EARLIER TODAY.
HE IS THE CO-DIRECTOR OF THE MACON CHILDREN'S PROMISE NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT... A GRANT-FUNDED PROGRAM THAT AIMS TO BOOST THE GRADUATION RATE IN THE UNIONVILLE AND TINDALL HEIGHTS NEIGHBOROODS.
THE PROJECT USES MANY OF THE SAME WRAP AROUND SERVICES FEATURED IN DALLEAMND'S STRATEGIC PLAN.
Candace: "If you take the Promise Neighborhoods plan, and you take the Superintendent's strategic plan, there are some points in there that align some goals that align."
Brown: "Well its very very important that they stay aligned, one of them, the foundation of the superintendent's plan and of our approach is that if you give children opportunity to learn, we believe they can learn. So both approaches are a matter of increasing the opportunities to learn, whether its early childhood or primary grades or middle school or high school. But the superintendent has an internet initiative exactly like the one we have in promise neighborhood to be sure that each child has access to information services, internet, at home, not jus at school with a computing device and with a connection to the internet. Its the 21st century way of getting information. So that's an overlap. Afterschool programming superintendent spoke about that this week about applying for 21st century community learning center grants to support after school. the most dangerous time of day for young people is between 3 and 6 because that is when they can get in trouble."
THE PROMISE NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT IS IN ITS FIRST YEAR.
THEY HAVE AN 8 HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT... AND A YEAR TO PUT THEIR OWN STRATEGIC PLAN TOGETHER.
THEY WILL APPLY FOR A 30 MILLION DOLLAR GRANT TO IMPLEMENT THE PLAN OVER 5 YEARS.
