AUTHORITEIS IN MACON COUNTY ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THEY SAY HAS BEEN SHOOTING AT CARS WITH A B-B GUN.

THE SHOOTINGS HAVE BEEN GOING ON SINCE DECEMBER...
THERE WERE SIX YESTERDAY.
CANDACE ADORKA WENT TO MACON COUNTY TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION.

<<
Sheriff Charles Cannon says Wednesday afternoon he's had 6 or 7 calls from drivers headed North of Highway 49 who said their car windows had been shot out.
That makes about 10 such incidents since December. It wasn't until yesterday that someone got hurt.

Smith: "I was coming from Americus on my way home, a bullet came through the window as you can see the window was down and hit above my eye"

Doctors pulled this bb bullet out fo Kristina Smith's forehead. She says its only by the grace of god that it wasn't much worse.

"I would have lost an eye, I could have not been here today."

Sheriff: "The shots had to be coming from this wooded area over here and it several acres of land"

Sheriff Charles Cannon says the culprit doesn't to hit a person to be dangerous.
"Driving along and everything is fine.... loose control and have a wreck"
Cannon says the shootings appear to be random.
"No certain type of vehicle, no certain gender, just mischief"
Whatever the motive.. Smith says she hopes the culprit is caught and soon.
"I want to person to get caught because there are other poeple that drive through there to work and what not, and I don't want lives to be in danger"

SHERIFF CANNON SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHO THE SHOOTER IS BUT THEY DO HAVE SOME LEADS.

HE SAYS ONCE THE CULPRIT IS CAUGHT HE'LL MAKE SURE THEY'RE PUNISHED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHOOTINGS.. CALL THE MACON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AT 478-472-6447.. AGAIN THATS 472-6447.

THE SECRETARY OF DEFENSE CALLED ON CONGRESS TODAY TO START ANOTHER ROUND OF BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE OR BRAC.
LEON PANETTA SAID IT'S PART OF A PLAN TO CUT 487 BILLION DOLLARS FROM THE DEFENSE BUDGET OVER THE NEXT TEN YEARS.
HOWEVER... HE DIDN'T GIVE A DOLLAR AMOUNT ON HOW MUCH THEY WANT TO SAVE FROM BASE CLOSINGS... BECAUSE CONGRESS WOULD HAVE TO AGREE TO AUTHORIZE A BRAC COMMISSION... FIRST.

Leon Panetta, Secretary of Defense: "We are going to draw down the force, we have got to take a look at the infrastructure that is supporting the remaining force. and the reality is that we are going to have to reduce infrastructure. The best approach to reducing that infrastructure politcally on capitol hill has been to work it through the BRAC process."

IN ADDITION TO BRAC... PANETTA SAID THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE WOULD SAVE MONEY BY

- SHRINKING GROUND FORCES... INCLUDING THE ARMY AND MARINES... BY 100 THOUSAND.

- RETIRING AGING AIRCRAFT.. INCLUDING SOME C-5'S AND C-130'S WHICH ARE MAINTAINED AT ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE.

- SMALLER PAY INCREASES STARTING IN 2015

- AND REVIEWING HEALTHCARE BENEFITS FOR MILITARY RETIREES.

U-S REPRESENTATIVE AUSTIN SCOTT....AND SENATOR SAXBY CHAMBLISS...BOTH ISSUED STATEMENTS REACTING TO THE DEFENSE CUTS.
THE TWO GEORGIA REPUBLICANS HAD DIFFERNT TAKES ON TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT.
SCOTT SAID THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE THREATS AROUND THE WORLD....AND THE PROPOSED CUTS WILL BE HARMFULL TO OUR ECONOMY...AND SECURITY. SCOTT SAID.

I INTEND TO FIGHT HIS DECISION EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

CHAMBLISS SAID "THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE NEEDS TO MAKE THE BEST USE OF THEIR RESOURCES IN EVERY AREA OF THE DEFENSE BUDGET, AND I SUPPORT THEIR ATTEMPT TO DO SO.

CHAMBLISS SAID HE WANTED TO LOOK AT THE BRAC PROCESS CLOSELY....BECAUSE PREVIOUS ROUNDS HAVE NOT SAVED AS MUCH MONEY AS EXPECTED.
BUT HE SAYS HE'S CONFIDENT THAT GEORGIA'S BASES CAN STAND UP TO THE SCRUTINY.
