GOOD EVENING AND THANKS FOR JOINING US..
I'M FRANK MALLOY..THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 11.
LEAH JOHNSON HAS THE NIGHT OFF.

MACON STREETS ARE A LITTLE SAFER TONIGHT AFTER POLICE CARRIED OUT A CITY WIDE CRIME SWEEP.

MACON POLICE.. ALONG WITH STATE PATROL AND BYRON OFFICERS PATROLLED THE STREETS OF MACON.. IN AN EFFORT TO CUT DOWN ON VIOLENT CRIMES AND INCREASE POLICE PRESENCE.
MORE THAN 50 OFFICERS WERE ON DUTY TO HELP TARGET SPECIFIC AREAS.
OFFICERS PULLED OVER SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE... AND INVESTIGATED STRANGE ACTIVITY.
THEY MADE ARREST BASED ON WHAT THEY FOUND
THOSE IN CUSTODY WERE BOOKED... AND TRNASFERRED TO THE BIBB COUNTY JAIL.
CORPORAL STEVE HARRISON WITH THE STATE PATROL SAYS THE NIGHT WAS A SUCCESS.

Corporal Steve Harrison, State Patrol "Its going real well. We have already had one chase and we are in the process of making several arrest, not sure what they are for right now we will know when they bring them in what the actual arrest are for also our tag reader detail is going well"

MACON POLICE SPOKESWOMAN JAMI GAUDET SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW THE EXACT NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARRESTED.
POLICE ALSO USED A HELICOPTER DURING THE SWEEP.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY'VE HELD THE OPERATION.

THE THREE MEN ACCUSED OF KILLING A WARNER ROBINS WOMAN IN A MURDER FOR HIRE SCHEME.. ARE SET TO APPEAR IN COURT NEXT WEDNESDAY.
BUT HOUSTON DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE HARTWIG SAYS ONE OF THE DEFENDANT'S ARRAIGNMENTS WILL LIKELY BE DELAYED..
THAT'S BECAUSE HARTWIG FILED A MOTION THIS WEEK TO SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY AGAINST THE ACCUSED SHOOTER... RICHARD SYBERT.
HARTWIG SAYS JOHNNY CLEMENTS WAS SHOT AND KILLED IN HER WESTWOOD DRIVE HOME... NEAR CARL VINSON PARKWAY... FEBRUARY 8TH OF LAST YEAR.
IN LATE MARCH... HER HUSBAND JAMES EDDIE CLEMENTS... AND TWO OTHER MEN... ROBERT SYBERT AND HIS SON RICHARD SYBERT WERE CHARGED WITH HER MURDER.
EDDIE CLEMENTS IS ACCUSED OF HIRING THE SYBERTS TO KILL HIS WIFE.
HARTWIG SAID BECAUSE OF THE DEATH PENALTY MOTION... RICHARD SYBERT WILL LIKELY CHANGE HIS DEFENSE STRATEGY AND POSSIBLY HIS ATTORNEY..... WHICH WOULD DELAY NEXT WEEK'S SCHEDULED ARRAIGNMENT.

HARTWIG SAYS EDDIE CLEMENTS AND ROBERT SYBERT'S ARRAIGNMENT IS STILL SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
CLEMENT'S ATTORNEY... LAURA HOGUE... SAYS HER CLIENT WILL ENTER A NOT GUILTY PLEA.
A CALL TO ROBERT SYBERT'S ATTORNEY WAS NOT IMMEDIATLY RETURNED.

GETTING RID OF GRASS... LEAVES.. AND STICKS BY THROWING THEM INTO THE STREET.. AFTER A DAY OF YARDWORK.. COULD SOON BE UNLAWFUL IN MACON.
THAT'S IF CITY COUNCIL PASSES AN ORDINANCE THAT SAYS RESIDENTS AND YARD SERVICE COMPANIES... COULD BE FINED... IF THEY'RE CAUGHT DEPOSITING THE DEBRIS INTO THE ROADWAY.

MACON CITY COUNCILWOMAN NANCY WHITE SAYS SHE RECEIVED COMPLAINTS FOR SEVERAL YEARS... ABOUT PEOPLE BLOWING LEAVES AND GRASS INTO THE STREETS.
CITY MANAGER... BILL CAUSEY... SAYS THE LEAVES CAN BUILD UP AND CLOG THE STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEMS.
HE SAYS EVENTUALLY... IT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE AND FLOODING IN THE STREETS.
COUNCILWOMAN WHITE SAYS SHE AGREES.

Nany White, Macon City Council: "When you blow all that yard debris out and it washes down into the gutter, the storm water drain system, it clogs it up. And so whenever it rains, it floods. So it's a very significant problem because the prvate people and private businesses are compounding a public issue that the tax payers are paying for."

IN TUESDAY'S MEETING... COUNCIL REFERED THE ORDINANCE TO THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENGINEERING COMMITTEE.
WHITE SAYS FINES COULD RUN UP TO 5 HUNDRED DOLLARS.
